I just got EVNEW and am starting to play around with it. I looked at some of the rle8 and rleD resources, and want to create my own for a new weapon. To do this, do I need to draw all of the frames myself (using paint or something like that)? Is there a tool I can use to do this? I did some tinkering with the original EV, but I never figured this stuff out. Thanks a bunch.

Generally, people use a 3D program like POVRay, Strata, Infini-D, Lightwave, Maya, 3DSMax, or whatever to create a 3D model of the weapon (yes, even possible for bolts) and then render.

So people use a 3d app to make the shot graphics? I could belive it for missiles, mabey, but laser bolts? Couldnt one just photoshop something up, rotate it, and then crunch the whole thing down? Or does this end up looking horrible? -Az

Yes, one could PhotoShop it, but that would end up taking a lot longer than simply spinning the object in Strata, as I have always done it.
And I don't know about the looking horrible aspect... I've never tried it. But in... MakeSpďn, (i think) the auto-rotate was always screwy... got diagonal pixels in odd places.

Yes, with one problem...
The Strata registration site went down a LONG time ago, and you have to register the free version before being able to use it (impossible, because the site doesn't exist anymore). For the Mac version, there are preference files and licence files that get around that fact; I don't know of any workarounds for the PC version (I would guess editing the Registry).

Or a working serial number also works just fine. I have one that I got with my downloaded copy of 3.0.2 from somewhere.

I got the version from this website and registered it. It works fine so far, but I have a lot of tutorial to read.

A) It's not that hard to learn. (I already have my first weapon model done) and... The documentation is on their web site.

Wow. The program certainly looks interesting. Is there any online documentation, especially related to ship creation with the program? I'm familiar with interfaces such as Mechanisto and Bryce, but this seems to be more difficult to learn.
One thing I'm noticing about it, though, is that once you're done with your model, it's a pain to get ready for use with EVN. The big problem is that it only renders about 700 x 400 pictures, so you have to use paint to shrink it down.

Okay, not really sure what's going on. I read on this that the PC download of Strata won't work since the registration site is down, yet I read things about people using it. I'm just confused. Can anyone explain? I just want soemthing to make ships and stuff with on a PC that's relatively easy to use and is free so I don't have to steal...erm...borrow graphics from somewhere else.
