You need res-edit with nova tools installed, and a blank plugin file. You open the blank plug with res-edit, and add new resources based on what you want to do and what the bible says on how to do it. It takes a bit of studying to figure everything out, but once you have, it's not all that tough to do.
If you are also a 3d artist and you want to put your ships into the game, (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/cgi-bin/vftp/show.pl?product=evn&category;=guides&display;=date&file;=AddShips2.0.sit")this(/url) is a very useful guide that I don't know where I would've been without. If you are interested in that part of making plugin's then you'll need a few things from (url="http://"http://w00tware.ev-nova.net/")here(/url)
Well, good luck...
Where do u get a blank plugin file?
(url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/cgi-bin/vftp/show.pl?product=evn&category;=guides&display;=date&file;=BlankNovaPlugin.sit")blankplugin(/url) That also includes a list of all the nova resources you can add.
thanks, how do you install nova tools into resedit? i can find the preferences file for it
It should be here: System 9 folder/prefs/ResEdit Preferences if all else fails, use the computer's search feature.
its not there, and the search doesnt find anything, its like it doesnt exist
That's odd. Try downloading it again, except from (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/cgi-bin/vftp/show.pl?product=evo&category;=utilities&display;=date&file;=ResEdit213.sit.hqx")here(/url).
it does work and everything seems to be fine, but it just doesnt have the prefs file
D'oh, just found it, boy do i feel like a newbie
ok, now it says that the pref file is actualy a document, how do i install the nova tools into it?
Open the prefs in res-edit, and open nova tools in res-edit. Select all the files in Nova tools, cmd-copy and paste them into the res-edit prefs.
also, (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/cgi-bin/ubb/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&number;=31&SUBMIT;=Go")bomb's plugin guide(/url) might be useful. I haven't read it yet, nor do I know if it's for evo or evn, but you should still take a look. ------------------ (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/cgi-bin/ubb/search.cgi?action=intro&default;=26")Search!(/url)
ok got it installed, but now i have no idea what to do or how to do it, my ultimate goal is to make it so you can buy infinite sigma shipyards outfits (mount reinforce, rewire, etc) how do i program this into resedit?
thanks
Alright. You are going to want to edit the outf resources for those outfits. These can be found in one of the 6 main Nova Data files residing in your EV Nova -> Data folder. In this case it is Nova Data 4. First make sure you have Novatools installed as menitoned above.
Next, open the Nova Data 4 file, there should be a resource titled outf. It should have an icon resembling that of a plugin with a ship on it. If this icon does not show up, then you have not installed novatools properly.
Find the resources you want to edit inside the outf container.
COPY them to a blank file, which can be downloaded from the link above or made by going File -> New in resedit and changing the creator codes.
Make sure you do not change anything in your Nova Data files becuase if you mess something up you will have to re-download Nova.
Edit the outf resources you just copied to your new plugin. Find the field entitled Max #. Change it to something really high, and you're done.
Andrew
------------------
Just a little clarification... the resources you want to copy start at Resource ID 333. Also outfits can have unlimited max numbers by entering -1.

Wow... you guys are getting more patient by the day. Not one flame about the largeness of the question, or the search feature. Only nice stuff, I've haven't seen this level of tollerance in years. This is really good guys.
Respect!
I have to say though, that really the best way to learn is through a few things, trial and error, practice and reading the nova bible. The whole novatools thing is quite intuitive once you get into it, quite easy to learn.
Welcome to the boards Cball.
