I probably should go to bed, but I don't feel like it. So I'll announce the TC I've started that hopefully I'll finish. (I deliberately set my expectations low, with a total of maybe 40 inhabited systems, and recycled graphics).
It's called EV: Exodus (Or, alternatively, EV: Revelations. I can't decide which sounds cooler) The game begins in the Sol System, which actually consists of 12+ systems, one for each planet. Earth and the rest of the Inner system has been infected by a deadly plague and is under quarantine. The Outer systems are ruled by the Jovian Republic, who is currently fighting for control against a pirate/rebel group led by the Family White.
A tenth planet (Exodus) has been discovered with all sorts of abandoned ruins from an ancient alien civilization. Around it is a wormhole. All who have entered have never returned.
As you progress, you soon learn that the Inner System plague is demonic in nature, and is part of a grand malevolent scheme by an ancient demon race. There are two major storylines: the Celestials and the Tan'Ari (I sort of rip of D&D;, although there are a bunch of twists) but there are a variety of ways to complete them both.
So, that's it. If it looks like I might actually finish, I'll make a website. Until then, if anyone really cares to learn anything more, just reply here.
------------------
Where does that wormhole go to? Do you have to enter it to complete the storyline? That would be cool since you have some kind of second dimension.
------------------ You can run but then you die tired
Sounds interesting.
------------------ (url="http://"http://ulrik.no-ip.org")ulrik.no-ip.org(/url) I hope that a future EV Nova will hold the gövt-switch set expression, working like Wxxxyyy: hereby treat and let behave what belongs to gövt xxx as if it belonged to gövt yyy. This is the small tool we lack to build a believable scenario without unrelaistic amounts of resources and work.
Yes, you must enter the wormhole. Although doing it before you're ready to is a bad idea, since it's one way and there are some nasty things waiting on the other side...
And yes, it leads to another dimension, where everything is connected by Wormholes and you find yourself in a conflict that at first seems a tad bit greater than yourself. (More than that I won't say, since I want it to be a surprise if the plug actually reaches completion)
The story will be divided into 4 Acts. If things go the way I want, each one will have a short introduction movie (that'll probably just say "ACT I" floating around in shimmering letters and then fade out)
ACT I: In the Arms of Jove ACT II: The Return to Earth ACT III: Beyond the Gate ACT IV: Eye of the Storm.
Good Luck Raemon, may your Total Conversion become a reality.

Why is this an exodus? Why is it a revelation? Why not a Deuteronomy? Um.. It's sounds interesting, but I suggest dropping the 10th planet crap and setting it either on and around one of the 8 planets (I'm not counting Pluto, which scientists are beginning to believe isn't a real planet), or on a new planet in a different system. A 10th planet cannot logically exist, and I dislike it when people use it. Why is the planet called Exodus?

Is imagination forbidden around here?
Um yes if it is beyond the engine's capability
(Ooops, posted twice).
By the way, why do I need to get permission from pista-whatever you said?

I'm working from an 8 year old textbook, so I could easily be wrong. But according to it, we still cannot account for the orbit of Uranus. There must be a large planet farther out that screws around with it. Neptune was originally thought to be this planet, but it wasn't big enough. Then we discovered Pluto, and we thought that must be it. Except then we noticed Pluto is only slightly bigger than a fist sized rock (exaggerated for purposes of comedic effect), and adds practically nothing to the equation. So there must still be something out there.
Even if they have figured it out, it's still no more realistic to assume that vast alien empires exist than a single tenth planet.
Originally, I called it Revelations because it sounded cool, and because the discovery of the Beyonders and the history of the universe was a big cool revelation.
Then, I realized that Exodus makes more sense. An Exodus is a big journey or escape or something along those lines. A major part of the game is the journey through the Wormhole into the world beyond. Makes perfect sense to me.
Originally, the wormhole was located in Saturn. Then I moved it to Pluto, so it was a little farther away. Then I decided I wanted humanity to actually find evidence of Alien Civilization, and I couldn't think of any reason for aliens to settle on a sucky planet like Pluto, and I wanted it far enough out of the way that I couldn't use Mars or Europa or any of those moons/planets that make sense.
One of the major points of the story is that mankind doesn't have interstellar travel yet. We move throughout the Outer System using hypergates (originally, we had to travel for several years to get there to build the hypergates itically nothing to the equation. So there must still be something out there.
One of the major points of the story is that mankind doesn't have interstellar travel yet. We move throughout the Outer System using hypergates (originally, we had to travel for several years to get there to build the hypergates in the first place. Yes I ripped off Lost in Space). The inner planets are close enough together that you can travel between them using Subwarp drives, once you get a ship that doesn't require hypergates.
In the words of 2 Skinny J's, "Pluto's a planet!" And beginning to believe? Pluto as a planet or not has been debated for nearly as long as it's been known to exist. Not knowing much about astronomy or physics though, I'm curious as to why a tenth planet could not logically exist. Are you just referring to the fact that we haven't found a tenth planet and with our level of knowledge and observation of our own solar system, if there was we'd have found it by now or are there other physical laws preventing a tenth planet from existing?

Unless I am mistaken, the strong possibility of a tenth planet was also discussed in an article in the Science section of the New York Times some time back.
Matrix, why do you come to the conclusion that it can't?

This is the coolest idea for a TC I've heard in a long time.
Kudos for going with a small number of systems people want to play your game, not sign away their lives.
I'm not sure about the recycled graphics, unless you really can't manage them. Why not just do a small number of types of ships (say, four or five).

I'm good enough with graphics to do Outfits, a new Introduction sequence, stuff like that. But I had a hard enough time doing ships with the old EVs. Now I have to compete with all these fancy glowing lights and spinning gravitation chambers and all that, and I just don't think it's worth the effort.
I do change the colors, though, courtesy of the Government Ship color. Puritan ships are Federation, but sort of shiny white. Tainted ships are Polaris but green.
sounds like a very cool plug. Way to go on setting yourself a reasonable TC too.
Ok, Pluto.
Beyond Neptune there is a large belt of crap called the Kupier (sp?) Belt and the Oort Cloud is out there too. Blah blah blah, those aren't all that important for what I'm going to say, except that some scientists think maybe that's where Pluto came from. Pluto is tiny, and it's "moon" is half of it's size. Pluto/Charon have the closest masses of moon and planet of any other bodies in our solar system. Since everything has mass and therefore gravity, a moon is always pulling on it's planet, just like the planet is pulling on the moon. The thing is, when the masses are so close, the moon doesn't orbit the planet anymore, they orbit each other, and that is no longer a planet/moon relationship, but rather a binary planet system (Use that -- it's cool ) So some people say that we have 8 planets in our system, and Pluto is just another asteroid type thing, and others say we have 10 planets in our solar system because Pluto and Charon are both planets. It's all up for debate.

Perhaps by the time you're ready to start releasing something, you'll have established enough interest (and credibility) to inspire some artist to create ship graphics for you. I wouldn't ask just yet, though -- most everyone is already involved in projects these days.

I remember that in EV Classic, there were some people who just made graphics cause they were bored and put them up for download. Anything like that available for Nova yet? I still won't worry too much about it till I'm done with most of the rest of it, but it's a possibility I'd consider, to try and get graphics closer to what they should look like. (I use a Phoenix for a Shuttlecraft, since all the Jovian ships have that red trim and the shuttle looked out of place. It works, but only barely)
On the topic of Planet #10: WHO THE HELL CARES? For God's sake, you can put whatever you want in a plug-in. Did you criticise Matt and Peter for the Voinians, Miranu, Igadzra, Zidagar, and Azdgari? Did you criticise ATMOS for the Vell-os? These are all much more ridiculous things than a tenth planet.
Besides, there has been debate about a tenth planet (which little Elementary school kids dub "Planet X"). Is it not okay to make a plot line where this turns out to be true?
Anyway, sounds like a cool plug-in.
