Dominatable Hypergates?

0 is the same as -1 in a cron: its a wildcard. If a cron isn't set up to persist, it doesn't.

Very old topic, I know. But since it's still active...

Just had a thought about this Hypergate thing, but no idea if it'd even work. Could you create a habitable planet (or station) but give it the graphic of the Hypergate. Not sure if the animation would work right here which would be the main problem. Then as soon as you land there would be a hidden mission offered 100% in the spaceport with no desc that would instantly kick you off and take you to another spob. If this was feasible you could still hail it. If the right ncb is set the planet lets you land, if not out come the defences.

I used to jog but the ice kept falling out of my glass.

The animation is the problem- only things marked specifically as Hypergates will animate like hypergates. In my latest project, I'm using wormholes as hypergates and run against this problem. Non-hypergates always loop (or randomly animate depending on the flags you set) instead of opening and holding.

Yeah, that's exactly what I thought would happen.

While working on my plug, I found a great solution to this problem, that will allow you to keep the animation and dominate the hypergate.

First, have two spobs- one the hypergate proper, the second the "Staging Area" (I haven't coined a real term for them yet). In my plug, these are kind of like galactic truck-stops, a place to rest, refuel, rearm, before going through the gate.

Next, the hypergate works like a normal one in Nova- you can never land without the proper rank.

Next, the Staging Area is a normal station, and is the thing you actually dominate. In the OnDominate field, award the rank for the hypergate, if you don't have it already. If you have (As I do) a separate government for each gate, you can individually control access to each gate. Also in OnDominate, use the dominate NCB on the hypergate. Not sure if this works yet, but it can't hurt. This is kind of a variation of the multiple-spaceport trick, really.
