Whatever happened to:
EV: Spare Parts? Caernarvon Station? Klyde Korporations? Black Hole? Weepul884's EV Shipyard?
I know what happened to the sites, but what became of the graphics? Their creators? Anyone know?
------------------ THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE! (Lies are in your head.) ------------------ The TruthΒ- coming soon to a theatre near you.
They were... assimilated (most of them anyways).
Ask EVula.
Some are here (url="http://"http://www.evula.com/shipyard/")http://www.evula.com/shipyard/(/url)

No, none of them are there.
**PlanetPhil posted this on 12-18-2000 11:29 PM ------------------------------------------------------------------------ A couple of weeks back, Jon Potter posted that Stardock Alpha's Spare Parts for EV had gone the way of the dinosaurs. Potter said he had emailed the webmaster, who told him that he'd wiped all EV-related stuff from his hard drive. Sorry! **
Oooooh... nasty. It's probably all out there, on hard drives of plug developers across the planet who used those graphics. I'm sure that with coordinated effort, they could be recovered...

EV: Spare Parts, as you found out, is dead for good (unless we mount a rescue of all the files).
Caernarvon Station had it's HTML and graphics hosted in one place, and it's files in another. The host for the files deleted all of them (can't remember the reason why).
Klyde Korporations up and disappeared.
You could ask blackhole what happened to Black Hole.
The ISP that hosted Weepul's shipyard sold out, I believe; I don't know what happened to the files.

Unfortunatly, none of the ones listed have been assimilated, only Eeun's Shipyard and Saber Studios. However, I'm certainly willing to assimilate more; the original reason I assimilated Eeun's was because he was shutting down and I didn't want to see those graphics go away forever. Same deal with Saber Studios, although it took much longer to get it.
Note to pretty much everyone: If you have the original files for any of the above shipyards, I would be overjoyed if they were sent my way for addition into the ever-expanding (url="http://"http://www.evula.com/shipyard/")Shipyard.(/url) I'll be looking through my old Zip Disks later tonight to see if I have anything that I'll be able to add. I think I'm also going to go through (url="http://"http://www.evula.com/links/shipyard.html")these shipyards(/url) and download all the files and contact the owners.
Perhaps my Shipyard will be the final resting place of a dozen of the oldest shipyards in the EV community.

A webhost. EVula seems likely, but to perpetuate the EVula shipyard monopoly? I'vecompleted a website and am putting it up at adelphia.com soon, but only 10 megs. Is this enough?
Well, you may eventually find, after much effort, that EVula.org will be superior to any other free host out there. So use his services to break his monopoly, by setting up your own shipyard and have him host it.
Is there really anything wrong with the Empire of The EVula?

Bwuhahaha... I love it when you want to compete, yet I'm the only solution...
Actually, evula.org accounts (basic ones, at least), can only have 20 megs. That probably won't be enough if you're planning on resurrecting old shipyards.
You have two options: you could go with sourcecod, or I can assimilate the old shipyards into mine.
Sourcecod would give you 500 megs of space for this "ΓΌber-shipyard", and you'd have a nice little subdomain like shipyards.sourcecod.com. The down side to this, of course, is that you're out $50.
However, with the other option, the revived files are stored safe and sound inside a pre-existing resource, providing an even greater resource to the community. Of course, control over the section would be limited, but disk space for the old files certainly wouldn't be limited.

Wow, and I didn't even pay you to say that. Sweet!

Amen!
you dont need to pay us (url="http://"http://www.EVula.com")EVula(/url)...
No matter what we say, we all love you, EVula, bringer of... everything.
Was there ever actually a chance that it wouldn't be hosted (if indeed it is ever hosted) by anyone but you? No. Giant uber-sites aren't all that bad, as long as they're not actually EVil... EVula is a mighty god, all who try to oppose him perish...
If you want to host it, that would be great. But unless we can contact the graphics' designers, it's a lost cause to begin with.
(edit) Jager, I got your email. I'm using Adelphia because I love doing business with bankrupt, corrupt, power-hungry moguls... no, I'm using them (for now) cause someone I know is loaning me space there and, because there's a written contract, I'm not liable if someone uses my website to distribute the fabled "Yog-Sothoth" virus and fries every electronic device within ten miles of a telephone line. Also, I'm cheap, and I don't want to spend any money or have pop-up ads on my site. (/edit)

Exactly.

Well, I must admit that's pretty close to how I feel about it, but still, better safe than sorry.

Yeah, I'd love to host it as another section of my own Shipyard (although hosting it as a seperate entity doesn't bother me much, especially if that means that I don't have to do any of the setup).
However, I'm not entirely sure if we need to get their permission. After all, this would only be a mirror for files that they've already put out there for general consumption by the masses. While their permission would certainly be nice, I'm not sure if it is needed (although if they asked for them to be taken down they would).

(url="http://"http://www.evula.org/")evula.org(/url) doesn't cost anything and there are no pop-up ads. Hurrah!

The ISP in whose webspace it was hosted was bought out - twice. I still have the files (I keep everything ;)), but I consider the graphics I had in it pretty simple and outdated compared to what I do now - that's why I haven't put it back up. That, and my request-usage-before-release method (more accurately, those who ignored it) was getting to be tiresome. I suppose if there's enough demand, I could re-release them...I have contacted a good deal of the designated set-users and they wouldn't mind.
Let me know.
------------------
If we don't need permission, hurrah (although I did email the old webmaster in the vague hope that there might be a response. I'll get cracking immediately on the site!
(edit) Two problems: webarchive.com isn't working at the moment, meaning that much needed graphics are unavailable, and: how do you have files available for download from a site?
(another edit)
Yes, I'm sure that there would be lots of demand for your graphics. You should just have it so that the only way to download is through a request form, which probably wouldn't diminish "serious" demand.

Score, my memory doesn't suck as bad as I thought! Woohoo!

Why re-release them yourself when you could have them hosted inside my Shipyard...
Of course, the other option is for you to start putting out some of your newer ships for people to use in EVN plugins.

Erm, just upload the files somewhere and put links to them.
Along the same lines as the first post... does anyone know what happened to Matthew Dailey? (url="http://"http://www.grand-novice.com")His site(/url) is still up, and the graphics seem to be downloadable, but it hasn't been updated in months (since December 2001).
