Novatools/Shan help

I'm using NovaTools' Resedit editors and EnRle to try to put in a BIG ship. It's 405x405 per frame.

Anyway, I'm having real trouble getting novatools to work with it. I can't make the shans so EnRle will except it. I just keep getting that dumb "such is life" message, and it seems the problem is a size problem. It wouldn't fit into the Novatools Shan Preview Window, and Enrle totally warps it when rendering. Is there anything I can do besides make it smaller?

I tried it with a smaller ship (100x100) with a normal-looking shan preview, but EnRle warps it horribly. I've tried everything, and come to the conclusion that all copies and the source code for EnRle should be confiscated and shredded by the Rabid Programming Weasels of Justice.

EnRle and one or two others from the same source give the "such is life" message. They have never actually worked on my OS 9.x system. I dearly want to run the compare program to look for duplicate Res IDs, etc but no go. Oh well.

I suggest asking the people who are doing the Star Wars plug. They are making very big Star Destroyers...

You're able to make ship-sprites any size, only limited by the PICT-file format. (Very large, twice the size of the Super Star Destroyer).
Make sure m2s has enough free memeory when makng your sprite-layout. Make sure EnRLE has enough free memory when converting to RLE-format.

I've had plenty of problems with EnRLE but I seem to have solved them.
Where exactly does your problem occur?

But, oh, what a wicked world it was that drove a man to sin.

My problem occurs when the sprites are rendering in EnRle. Instead of normal-looking, clean sprites, I get warped, pixelated sprites in EnRle's preview window when it's rendering, and again in the actual RleD.

But it looks good enough before you run it through EnRLE? As a PICT shän?

My suggestion: allocate more RAM for EnRLE

If you want to, you can send me the file before it is EnRLE'd. I'll have a look around.

Okay, I'll ship it along.

I tried it as a spin and EnRle did fine. The problem must be my shan. I might send that too.

Denb, I sent you the files in different compression this time. You can disregard the small ship, I got that one working. It was a mistake in the "basesetcount" field of the shan, a mistake I may have made in the big one too, but was unable to check thoroughly due to a freak memory shortage.

How much RAM is allocated to ResEdit? How much RAM does your computer have?

A relative crapload, like 50mb.

Oh, I didn't see this post. But it seemed that the large one had wrong values as well. I get those freak-memory thingies too. I'll look into it later today, when I get home.

EDIT: come to think of it, this is most likely the problem with the memory, the shän thinks you have a 36 image sprite layout with 36 different sets. That's gotta get the memory allocation in trouble.

How much is allocated to EnRLE?

Enough, trust me. The probles has been solved, the BaseSetCount was set to 36 which caused ResEdit to barf. Leading to strange and unwanted results when trying to EnRLE the bad shän ressource.
