The cordinates are all relative anyhow. If your map is top heavy, It shouldn't make a difference in gameplay.

Well, I've used NovaMap for a little while and I must say, the new version is cool. I had a few bugs to report, but they are all fixed now. Originally, I used NovaMap just to place the systems easily; now, I use it for everything in the system. Keep it up, Thor. When it's finished, NovaMap will be incredible.

Well, I have found a serious bug in NovaMap. Whenever I set the reinforcement fleet time and the asteroid, interferance and murkiness values, NovaMap sets those values back to zero when I select a different system.
continues working on his TC project
30% of the starmap is done One of the four major storyline shipyards is as good as done the storylines are 40% complete
and still, nothing works
By the way, in all versions of NovaMap classic, I get a NilObjectException not handled

I don't know how NovaMap is constructed, but I've found that increasing the memory allocation often helps alleviate NilObjectExceptions.

Sorry for the late reply. I've been busy.

The layout makes things overlap under OS X (like the group box), making it harder to understand.
I have recompiled in 3.5.2 to fix that multi-color thing but whats weird is I could never duplicate it on either of my machines. In 10.1.0 or 10.1.3.
Set your monitor to millions of colors. The multi-color bug doesn't show up in any other color setting.
Aranor; I tried your app but I got nil object exceptions when it tried to redraw and when it tried to load a plug-in.
Really? It shouldn't be giving any nilobjs at all, I thought I had all folderitems and pictures and stuff checked to make sure they exist before access. Weird.
Oh, I have a more up-to-date version of my prog uploaded. While it still doesn't offer editing, it does offer a slightly different interface, and I have been working on the innards. I don't claim that mine is any competition to ThorPrime's yet, so if you want editing, try NovaMap. I'm just saying that mine is on it's way.
Hey ThorPrime, keep up the good work. While your interface seems a bit cramped to me, your program does work (or so I've heard, I haven't actually tried producing a plugin with it). Keep it up. Some day, mine will actually be able to edit systems, and then you'll finally have competition Just keep in mind: in a freeware setting, competition doesn't mean much. You get no money either way
Constructive comments on your prog: When I loaded the beginnings of a TC plug (i.e. it had a duplicate of all nova's systs, with properties set to 0 and location set to 1500, 1500) in your program, it took a few minutes before the wait cursor went away and the map actually showed. Also, how are you going to deal with graphically editing systems stacked on top of each other? (as opposed to selecting them from the list)

I agree that the interface is cramped but I was trying to fit it all into an 800x600 window and still have a relatively large map. If I give up on 800x600 compatibility I could easily expand it out into a more OSX compatible setup. Does anyone care about 800x600? As for a long wait, Nova uses a few hundred systems and if you replaced them all thats another few hundred plus any other resources have to be loaded as well, just not as in depth. All I can suggest is get a faster computer.
BTW, If you can produce a better editor, go ahead. I could just move to another project. I need to work on C++ anyhow.
Also new releases, use above links. fixed non-saving bits. Also, as for a nill Object exception, could you give me more info about exactly what was happening when it crashed. The only Way I've been able to get a nil object error is by having aliases that point to nothing.

I have an awfully fast computer. All I'm saying is, it took like 2 minutes to load the file, when my current incarnation takes a heck of a lot less, although it also doesn't load as many files (right now I've tested it with loading two, and it only loads systs and spobs, but I don't see how the govts and stuff would add THAT much loading time).
I say you should continue updating and supporting NovaMap, as mine still doesn't edit systems, although i'm building up the infrastructure close to the point where I can start add editing.
Meh. I wasn't saying NovaMap was giving nilobjs. Back on the first page of this topic, you (I think it was you, maybe someone else) said my prog gave a NilObj error, and I've not been able to get a NilObj error with mine, so I want to know how it was done.

I do. I don't get anything better

Yes, I need 800x600, as I only have an orange ibook, and that is the highest res it supports, and so I have to do all my editing on it

OK the next release will not have the OSX interface overlaps but will still fit in an 800x600 screen.

Yah, expect it the next release, but that will take a bit. Monday is optomistic, but possible. This school play is eating all my time, Tonight was the big first performance. It's 11:30 and I just got home, now i'm just ranting so I'll shut up.
