Presumably it will be released sometime after Nova is released. It is however being used to create Nova and ATMOS says it's a fantastic program.

really? is it at all related to "EV-Edit"? i never got that to work too well, and all the plugs i created with it were deemed "irreparibly damaged" by Res-Edit.

Let me get this straight. They are useing Nova Edit to make Nova. If Nova didn't exist before Nova Edit how did they make Nova Edit? This kind of thing keeps me up at night.

They knew what resources Nova would use before they created the scenario. The makers of Nova edit had access to this information early, so they were able to create the editors. After they created the editors based on the engine created by Matt Burch, the ATMOS folks used the editors to create the scenario that would run on the engine. Better now?

Assuming Ambrosia has become one with their inner modularity, Nova was designed to have seperate "engine" and "data" sections. By building the engine to be seperate from the data one could build the data with an editor for it in mind. Thus, completing the engine would be step one, and creating EVN's universe would be step 2.
This is all guesswork though. MBurch could be coding the entire thing in 68k ASM with data so convaluted it would give resedit a heart attack. On the other hand...

No, the scenario and engine have been / are being developed simultaneously.

The Nova plugin for EVO came out first. Then ATMOS asked for extra features to improve their great plugin, and EV3 was born. Between ATMOS design abilities and Matt Burch programming skills, Nova became very complex. So Nova Edit, or to give its correct name w00tRalphTools, was created allowing the Nova scenario to be created more easily, and allowing Nova to gain even more features.
That is the (very) shortened history of the development of EVN

What's "Nova Edit"? Is that anything like (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/Forum9/HTML/001671.html")NovaTools(/url) ?
Wait, you mean that Nova Tools was used to create at least part of the Nova scenario?

Thanks Draxo,
Yes, the NovaTools editors have been in beta for a little while now. The release date is not decided, but I am mostly waiting for my testers to stop sending in bug reports and then I'll be guided by Andrew, Matt and ATMOS as to when the best time to release the editors is.
In addition to the editors, there are some other small applications to help with validating, importing and exporting as well as converting Nova resources.

Woohoo! My life got a little easier hearing that.

Yep. Matt's engine exceeded the capabilities of ResEdit TMPLs, and I was asked to help build editors for the Nova team during alpha development. I decided to use ResEdit as a shell to run custom editors inside, to save time.
I may yet write ShipWrite II for Nova, but I have no definite plans to do so as the ResEditors have proved fairly successful.
If there is demand and I have time, I may make ResEditors for EV/O, but I am starting other projects.

Are the Tools testers the same people who are testing Nova, or a different bunch? Is there any overlap if the latter is the case?
