I was reading a thread on the EV3 board when I came across this:

it was made originally for EV, but not for EVO, so what i did is replace the EVO warp up sound with the sound from the plug for EV- instant warp...**
Now, I've never released a plug to the EV community because I never did anything worth crowing about (except maybe the ship that carried more ships like itself, so it divided like a bacterium when attacked. Nice for a govt using organic tech. A little creapy to see a bunch of little balls quickly filling up the system and pecking you to death with their lousy weapons), but I tinker a lot. The thing is, I never heard about the trick of using a shorter "jump engine" sound to leave the system faster. How COOL!
The thing is, why isn't this trick documented? Same thing with adding more escort sound replies (there was a plug for EV, but is this used in EVO?). I'd think there'd be a section in the Bible called Misc Coolness that talks about things like this and what other cool tricks have people discovered that are not documented?
So, what have the folks of the developers board discovered that isn't documented? Besides easter eggs, that is.
------------------
All you have to do to make a ship jump quicker is set a flag in the resources. It's documented in the EVO bible.

About that dividing ship- can i have it? (i. e. email d/l etc) my email address is samthesham@lycosmail.com now, noone send me any viruses, huh?
§Spamurai Industries§ The best thing since sliced eggs!
I tinker around a bit too; I personally have never published a plug, though I am working on one right now. On idea I came up with is a neuclear bomb that decays. Basically it would use a ships resource so it could have mutiple weapons: one which is the initial explosion, one which has no graphic but slowly "leaks" radiation by draining the shields of whoever is within range. I have never tried it on EVO. (note to EV3 developers PLEASE enable weapons to fire other weapons so I don't have to waste a stupid ship resource}
I thought about a self-replicating mine theory, but never implemented it for fear my computer would lock up because of an infinite number.
------------------ Herodotus: The Histories "If an important decision is to be made, they discuss the question when they are drunk, and the following day when they are sober reconsider it. If they agree, it is made law. Conversley, any decision they make when they are sober, is reconsidered when they are drunk." Sounds like good government.

I did the same thing in my EV plug-in "Merger One". There are Space Barnacles that replicate themselves. You're free to d/l and use the resources, but the graphics aren't mine and thus I can't give them out to you. Sorry.
You need'nt have worried. EV/O will stop replicating ships as soon as it reaches the max ships in system.

Thank you for your cooperation. Good night.
I have an idea of something cool- KAMIKAZE! It would actually be a really short ranged weapon with no graphix that destroys the ship when fired (one of the flags)
I haven't published a plug yet, but i'm working on a monumental one called Sestertius IV. Any help would be appreciated.

Someone's done that, I believe. There were sucide shuttles in a giant plug the name of which escapes me for the moment. I think it was Galactic Scourge...
You know, most of these ideas already appeared in The Quantumire Trilogy back in.... um, 1994ish... when TQT was published! Kamakazees are there, as are multiplying ships! (clonanble ships) (Although the cloned ship's copy is a different ship id, one without the cloning device - this prevents infinate duplicates ie the space bunny syndrome...) And you can bet it's all gonna be there, and more, in Quantumire SE... -david-
------------------ (url="http://"http://www.meowx.com")Meowx Design Studios(/url) Graphics. Games. And more...
All these ideas are nice, but not reaaly what I was hoping for when I started the thread.

Aah! Bloody hell! That's right, there was a reason the topic was started!! Ok, let's see... Well, although they are documented, oütf's modtype 22 and 23 are little known. They allow you to make a ships take a longer/shorted amount of time to travel through hyperspace and to be able to jump from anywhere n the system, respectively. These are also not new to 1.0.2, they've been around forever. Oh, and as for escort sound replies; yes, there is a plug. It's called MAGMA. -david-

How, exactly did you do that, BTW. Did you just get together with a bunch of friends and read into the mic or is there some sort of speech software with which you accomplished this? Most of the voices are quite intelligible, so I know you didn't use the voices that ship with the system.
I'm interested in eventually doing this for Mille Tarrae and don't know if I have the know-how.

Wow... you're actually posting here...
So where can I get this plug of yours?

Um... unless Meowx' design's product distribution division actually had access to the Quantumire, wouldn't a publication date of 1994 be fairly well impossible? I mean, given that EV was released in May 1996 and all...

Uh-huh. You're forgetting about tiny little plugin called Oreste, aren't you.
**Oh, and as for escort sound replies; yes, there is a plug. It's called MAGMA. **
Regardless of whether MAGMA includes extra escort replies or not, you're most certainly not the first. "More EV Fighter Voices" was released by Patrick Delhanty, the guy who did the original EV fighter voices shortly after the release of the game itself... I distinctly remember downloading it for the first time from Jay Tingely's then-unnoficial site on Sasknet.
Blah. I'm too anal. But it DOES bug me when people start taking credit for ideas that have been effectivly in the public domain for literally years.

um.. weren't the voices from UT?

Thus the "uh..." I was not sure of the original date and do not have a computer-chip memory for dates like some.

No, I'm not - I've never heard of it. If it incorporated these ideas before I did, more power to it!

Very good! Guess what? That's where I got the idea! If you'd read the original posts, you'd see that I was talking about extra voices for EVO! I belive MAGMA is the first to have new voices for EVO.

Yes. You are.

You'll note I never took credit for creating these ideas, I simply stated I had created plugs that incorporated them. While I readily accept consturtive criticism, I do not accept unjustified criticism. Please be careful. -david-

Right here. (url="http://"http://home.att.net/~EVPlug/")http://home.att.net/~EVPlug/(/url)
It's several years old at this point, but it's my biggest plug to date. Clearly, Mille Terrae blows it out of the water, even based only on the amount we've got done so far.
Oooh, ooh, I just remembered another one! (This is actually relevant to the post's purpose.) EVO's engine will actually re-size sprites for you! If you render something the wrong size; say 50x50 instead of 48x48, just type in 48x48 instead of the real size, and EVO will do the rest! This is also handy if you want a ships that looks just like one of the bigger ships, except smaller - go ahead, make a 16x16 UE Cruiser. It probably works in reverse (making stuff bigger) but I haven't tried, it would just be ugly and pixelated... -david-
Actually, Vincent Bernard (author of Oreste) did not invent the self-replicating ships. He attributes the idea to someone else in the read me file.
Like a lot of EVO ideas, though, they can have a completely different feel if implemented in a different way.
Regards
Martin

Now there's a notion... A ship that launches smaller versions of itself, which then launch still smaller versions of themselves, and so on, infinitum ad absurdum.

Hehehehehehehehe... yeah, he does. Some wierdo named "Regulus"
Ever heard of him?
Sigh... those were the days...
P.S. Nice to hear from you again, Martin.
