For F-25 2.0 I'm ready to include QT movies that add greatly to the missions. While they by no means carry the plot or are really essential, they make the briefings much cooler and finally would give the community a second plug-in that attempts to use movies. What is the general consensus on this? Should I not waste the time and not include them, or should I release a version with and one without? I should note that the movies add significant size to the file which isn't so much a problem for me as I can set it to upload at night, but do others with slower modems think this is a waste of time?

Right now, QT movies are a bad idea. They take a long while to download and EVO chokes on them (70% of the time they crash my comp. Baaaaaaaaaad). It's not worth all the effort.

Wait for Nova, then make the standard that all TC's must reach. That's what I intend on doing...can I count you as competition?

I would suggest that you offer a no-movies version of the download, which is otherwise identical. And, incidentally, I'd download the no-movies version. QT movies and EVO 1.0.2 are not a stable combination.
One other thing, if there's a new version of F-25 coming out... may I offer my services? I noticed quite a few grammatical errors in the mission and landing texts, etc. Things like that really bug me... I would be happy to proof-read and correct them if you want to send me a draft. Think about it.

I'll consider it. However, it'll be a lot more work than you probably think it will be, as much of the galaxy has been revised and edited and the missions completely re-written.
Well, the offer stands. I'm used to reading through lengthy technical papers, so a little science fiction would be light relief! I can soon proof-read a few thousand words of text. Try me - send the text strings that you've got so far, at your convenience.

Movies are cool, and since very many have fast internet acces at least here where i live, we're getting ADSL too (soon, this week maybe), size is not a problem. but also upload a version without them so modem users aren't in such a pain. And make it for nova, since it'll be out first anyways and f252 wouldn't get the attention it deserves if it was on EVO. And 256color animations look ugly.

I would not recommend the use of QT movies. EVO uses up all but 5MB of RAM on my computer, and my comp would probably crash running QT movies with EVO. (Remember the people who's computers are 5 yrs old!!!)

Negative on the second to last one there.. I'm willing to put money down that F-25 2.0 is done well before Nova. In fact, the timeframe for F-25's release is actually sooner than you might think.

Bomb, I suggest you release a version with and a version without, or even have the movies in a 'plugin' and just have the basic version without them. That way people can pick how they want it to go.
...and if you are looking for beta-testers and I am free from Nova, I would be greatly honoured to be considered for a spot on your list.

Well, I can't beat that. But who has a higher chance of being on the beta testing list and getting an earlier look at the engine? I'm kidding. If I was lucky enough to beta test it, all of my energies would go into the game, not my own plug-in.

And I would be equally honored to have you on there. I wouldn't need to consider it, the spot is yours if you ever want it. Unfortunately, beta testing is set to begin tommorow, so unless Nova is released miraculously tonight.. But even if you want a break from Nova for an evening to check it out, I'd be more than willing to send it to you.
I think what I'll probably do is release the plug-in without the movies, and offer an "expansion pack" or sorts which has the movies and the data file with the dëqt resources in it.. This will hopefully work out for everybody.

count me in for whatever you need. it's my aim to give bomb a hard time for releasing ROTV II with Araine attack missions that don't work!!
