New ship (opinions, anyone?)

(url="http://"http://micahl.virtualave.net/ship.jpg")A nameless creation not currently being used in a plug-in(/url)

That's pretty similar to how I hope for it to look, but it doesn't have any colorful highlights I plan to add soon. Any opinions so far?

I think it looks great so far (a lot better than some stuff I've seen, and I only say some, there's been some great work put out).

Obviously you said you havn't added anything yet. I'm no graphics designer, but I think a texture that has the ship more beat up...or at least less glossy would improve it a lot. It looks like you can almost see your reflection in that one bubble (the cockpit I'm assuming) whereas the rest of the ship looks a lot better because of the texture that it has...

Also, what do you have on those wings? Are those engines? Whatever they are, they look huge, yet they're put on tiny tiny wings. It looks like they could snap off in a second. Oh well, just my two cents.

Other than that, looks great, keep up the good work.

Hector: I used Strata3D (strata.com)

Scurv: You've got a good point about those big "things." I'll mess around with their size and see what looks good. Now, about what they are. That's really up to whoever is looking at the picture, and doesn't really matter to me. Good point about the bubble too, I'll slap a texture on there :).

how did you make those wings curve like that?

looks kinda like a "rabid metal duck" (to quote Eeun). 😉 no seriously it's nice, just maybe do something to the front, I'm not sure what. And add texture as they said. great job though.

I just used the Bezier Pen Tool until I got the shape I was looking for. Then, I used the Extrude tool to make it 3D.

I like it, but the nose is kind of wierd.

Looks good, but the thin model details will be entirely lost when reduced to sprite-size for the game.

Looks pretty nice. Much better than anything I could make, for sure. 🙂

The nose area really isn't up to the standard of the rest of the ship. Other than that, I like it!

Other than the sphere up front, It be very good.

The front part is more stretched in this version than in the first. I'd recommend loading both, then switching between them.

Ooh, I like this one even better. It looks like a bird of prey, kind of. Know what I mean?

Better but still... the front end is rounded and the backend is pointy. You've got organic in the front, and wicked medieval in the back, and the two just don't jive. Perhaps giving the bridge and nose more of a pike-shaped cross section? Look at figure e in this (url="http://"http://www.lyttoncreek.com/pike1.gif")illustration(/url).

The front section still looks out of balance from the rest of the ship. The rear part is preaty good.

After you used the bezier tool how did you fill it in? I can't find out how to do that...

Make sure that you're using the second pen setting (click and hold the bezier button).

Humm.. why do those look more like weapon cross sections?

They are weapon cross sections. 🙂 But imagine the point of the pike in figure e as the bridge of the ship. Sharp and wicked like the remainder. Just a suggestion.
