Hi, I have just been playing around in Photoshop, and come up with this...
My question is if I created a plugin that replaced landing pictures with pictures like this, would people use it?
Comments please...

Please note, the area of the starfield around the sun make (and does) look a bit weird, but this is down to the JPEG compression of this picture... it is a lot better in Photoshop...
I would download such a plug.

I wouldn't download a plug based on landing pictures, unless it just replaced the landing pictures, in which case, I would download the plug. It looks pretty cool, Gildor.

Maybe you could do an FFF plug using those landing pictures - Bacchus Freeware would help.

As I said, it would just be a plug that changes the landing picts -- nothing else

If all I see about the plug is the landing pictures, i.e. I have no knowledge about the plot, ships, et cetera, I won't d/l it. If it is just a plug that replaces landing pictures and I think the landing pictures are cool, I will d/l it. Understand, now?

I agree with skyblade but wait for the EV3 engine, they would probably look crap in 8-bit.

They do, unfortunately... I'll release them anyway as an experiment...

yeah, it does look cool.
Will the EV3 landing picts need replacing? No offense to you, Gildor. Yours look great.

Probably not, it's just a suggestion.
How did you make that in Photoshop...you aren't a matt painter I take it, so what the helldid you use...was it a bit Knoll Lens Flare Pro here, and some Lunar Cell there?? And the Stars must have been made with the noise filter set to B&W;?? I wanna know! I Need to Make!

As you correctly, guess, the starfield is just noise (about 15, gaussian, monochromatic) and the contrast tweaked (Im working on improving it) The sun is just the plain standard PS lens flare... (105mm, about 80%) The planet as you said was LunarCell...
Well guessed

Here are the best values for making starfields in Photoshop (no plugs needed!): First, fill the whole thing with black (paintbucket, fill, whatever). Then, do "Add Noise" with an amount of between 70 and 90, Gaussian and Monochromatic. Finally, go to Image > Adjust > Levels... and drag the black triangle a little to the left of the center. Then fool around with the grey triangle to set how many stars you want and how bright they are. -david-
