I'm having a great time in EVO!
I like the change in pace and style of the battles and I love the fact that I've been playing for hours and still have to fear most ships (this could be because I've been spending too much time exploring).
And now that I've gotten the Cold Fusion mod up and running, life is GOOD!
PS – It would be great if registered users of EVN could get a password for the original version of EVO as well. I'd love to play the game on my Quadra, it just seems more appropriate.

The Windows version is really messed up right from the start. Instead of the rolling credits with the drumroll at the start you have a scroll dialogue box. Then Earth is surronded in something that looks exactly like the Kane Band - and Luna is a full size planet! It gets worse from there, as Mars looks like that tremendously big Polaris planet and it's not uncommon for space stations to be planets...
That's just the tip of the iceburg for the Windows version. All and all, it appears no effort was put into this port. This seems to be common throughout Ambrosia's attempts to put things on Windows whether they do it themselves or hire someone else. The EV Nova engine is terrible by itself when compared to the Mac's. The radar only refreshes data every 5 seconds or so, and the shield/armor stats every 2, (on a Mac it seems fairly instant.) Also, several dialogue boxes for missions and planet descriptions are cut short - which definately didn't happen on Mac.
The primary reason to put the game on Windows should be to convince Window users that this is a great series - among the best in computer gaming. Although I certainly agree the Mac versions are great; the Windows versions are simply terrible - and will lose more support than they gain.

This is not a screw up. It's part of the Nova engine if someone doesn't want tho make the intro images that Nova has. I don't even think the Nova engine will let music play during the intro text.

Many people have reported this...even Mac users. I can't remember the cause, but if you search the Nova and Help boards, you'll find more info.

As far as I know, the port was not ASW's idea. A few guys said "We should port EVC and EVO to the Nova engine."

Don't the Mac and WIndows versions use the exact same engine? How can something be terrible when compared to itself?

That's a problem with Windows. Not the Nova engine.

I can't even play this game, or EV Classic. Every time I start, the game "unexpectedly quits" on me. I've removed all plug-ins, etc., but neither EV or EVO will play. I guess I'm stuck with EVN. Not that that's a bad thing of course, it's just that I would like to see what all the fuss is about.

Well, it might help if you list system specs

I got it figured out. Btw, I'm on a 1 GHz PB, running OS X.2.6 and have EVN 1.0.5 (78 megs is a LONG download when you live in the sticks and connect at 28k. That's why I haven't upgraded yet.)
I had to "purge" my game of EVN, meaning I started with a new pilot, then took all the plug-ins out, then made sure I got to a point where I knew there would be no plug-in "influence". Then once I changed all the folders around I could start EVC and EVO no problem.
I don't know if any of this made sense to you, but at least I'm playing EVC!
Great game, and great port, thanks for all your hard work, Soviet mikee!

The update is only 22Mb.

It seems like even the fastest ships are two-day jumpers in the port (at least in the windows version). Has anyone noticed this? It makes some of the strand missions impossible.
I've tried reducing the mass of the ships and even making an outfit that should take day off the jump times and the best I can do is still two jumps. Has anyone else seen this?
