The Voinian Dreadnought

The Dreadnought is the strongest ship in the game, although not necessarily the "best." When you capture it, you lose the friggin' use of the fighter bay. Also, it handles like a boxcar, regardless of any and all possible modifications. You can't really use it for missions requiring capturing another vessel, because they tend to just run away when their shields get low. If you capture it, the Voinians most likely already hate you beyond redemption, so you will never get access to Voinian military tech, although by dominating or bribing certain systems you can get access to their civilian tech.

All that being said, there is a certain perverse, lumbering satisfaction to wading into the crescent wars in the behemoth, maxing out on phase turrets, and blowing the crap out of every ship in space. It's also fun to get three or four as escorts, and then fly a banana or something.

How was I supposed to know that murder can sometimes smell like honeysuckle?

So it sounds like the Voinian Dreadnaught is basically unbeatable, which has certainly been my experience. Have all the people who have disabled it used this "dread not" plugin?

When I try on the first atack and the 4 Destroyers are destrpyed, I make sure it stays in the system and wait for passing UE ships to come in. I slao make sure no other Vionians arrive 🙂

Is there anything that happens if you don't beat it and run?

Oh my yes. When I did it with my crescent warship, there was a UE destroyer and a carrier already there, so it was the 'nought vs. 5 destroyers, 5 fighters, and a carrier. They tore it to pieces and the carrier lived, with 30-some % shields. Once it jumped out, I boarded 2 disabled destroyers, capturing one. My advice to anyone who has a ship too weak or just cant seem to beat the 'nought, jump in and out of the system repeatedly until there are some extra UE ships already in the system.

Hi,
I'm a recent convert to EVO, totally aaddicted. Is it possible to destroy the dreadnought with space mines, or will this make me a criminal in UE space?

If United Earth catches you buying space mines in EV Override 1.0.2, you may be charged a rather large fine, but if that's the only way you can defeat the Dreadnaught, it should be all right. The fine is be no means a certainty, and you don't lose any legal status if you're fast enough to pay it.

Just to explain my post a while back, where I mentioned you on would see perhaps only one UE Cruiser; I was using that non-existant "average" that really no-one abides to. In actual fact, we ALL play the game a huge amount of time, and see more. But I'm confident if you play it through quickly, you won't see many.

And yes, whoever said it -- I was one of those people who was unlucky enough to come up against 4 or 5 UE cruisers attacking Verril. 🙂

And I don't know where Red went -- from the V. Dreadnought is weaker than the UE Cruiser, to saying it could smash the Strands. Weird way of creeping out of an argument. 😉 Methinks he went and tested it, and failed.

As for defeating the Voinian Dreadnought...well...it annoys me that so many people think it's impossible. They've been used to only dying when they make a serious mistake, if ever, and they come up against the Dreadnought, and think, "impossible". I've never beat it on my first try, even now, because I usually screw up one way or another, but it CAN be destroyed...and it's best done in a fighter.

Why? Simple.

You NEED to be faster, which isn't too much of a problem, or it'll just crawl up to you an incinerate you. And it's best holding down A and charging it head on, since just engaging it and firing is hopeless (perhaps with a heavily upgraded Igazra, but come on, the Dreadnought missions are near the beginning because you're expected to have not as good a ship).

Your shields will go down faster than it's armour. But fighters recover shields in seconds.

Get a UE fighter or Crescent fighter, armed with blaze either way, and charge it. Recover shields, charge again. It should take something like a hundred passes. Happy holidays. 😉

Frankly, I'm more scared of 10 Kraits than the Voinian Dreadnought, which is probably easily explained. 1) I use a fighter, 2) until recently I didn't know that there was a select-nearest-target button and 3) With AI afterburners, 10 Kraits are difficult to outrun.

I used a UE carrier armed to the teeth with defense pods. In my eyes, that was the quickest defeat imaginable. Then you quit mission, try to capture, lather, rinse, and repeat millions of times.

I prefer stealing Igazras. It's SO easy in a Voinian Cruiser. <grin>

Word.

There are actually many different ways to kill a dreadnought.
I just thought I would put down the few I know of and if anyone
else has some good ones for the newbies then add to the list.

1 Monty Python, well it is almost cheating.
2 Hire or capture escorts. Really they only have to be Freighter
Couriers to get the job done.
3 Defense pods on anything the size of a cresent warship or larger.
This includes ships like miranu freighters.
4 Azdara, Enhanced Arada or Voinian Heavy figher with azgari upgrades,
dospect, shield regen., Exp shield regen and shield enhancers. Of
course you can't put the Exp shield regen on the En. Arada and there
not going to really be enough room for shield enhancers on the azdara.
5 Jump in and out waiting for there to be UE ships in Viork (I think that
is the correct spelling)
6 Use a bunch of hunter missles. This technique usually has to be used in
conjunction with capturing all of the voinian interceptor from the
Dreadnought and using them against it.
7 Get destroy the warfleet or munitions convoy in Viork. Now that is a good
way to get a whole load of UE ships in the system.

I have never used mine but the defense pods is by far the easiest of these methods.

Insanity has its advantages

Try getting one of the missions in which an allied fleet follows your ship. Hire some escorts, get yourself some UE outpost missions to destroy a Voinian Convoy in the target system as well, and you should destroy the Voinian Dreadnought without firing a shot from your primary armament.

Of course, that's not half as much fun as shooting the thing down yourself. I recommend twin rocket launchers, and a LOT of captured ammo from dead Interceptors.

Let me just say something 🙂 (oh here we go...)

I've used the V.D in my "Gimme d ship name here " series (for personal, 'testing' use only, heheheh), and I can safely say, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the wannabe Star Destroyer is the biggest baddest (add your own positive-sounding noun here) that you can get. Let's kill this argument in the water:

The Voinian Dreadnought is just one of many fine Voinian-built ships. Visit your local dealership today, and fly away in something truly Crescent-stomping.

actually, the first time I had to kill the dreadnought, I died like 4 times before I just bought a Carrier and loaded it up with Voinian Space mines, laid like 20 in one spot, then had the dreadnought follow me into them. That was a BIG explosion. The dreadnought sort of just vaporised- the delay was less than a second.

If you want to pilot the Voinian Dreadnought and keep the original outfits, download the Voinian plug at the top of the add-ons page. Simply land at the Command Center orbiting Mars and visit the shipyard, or conquer any Voinian planet or spacestation with a shipyard. You can also get Dreadnought escorts.
