What's a good ship to use in FH?

What's a good, not to pricey, ship to use that can accomplish the time limits?

The Tachyonic Fighter. It's a mission ship. The string begins with a chess competition on Earth.

How do I continue that string after taking the guy back to earth? Right now i'm doing democratic missions on some southwest planet where there are 2 factions and it involves fake ballots.

I noticed that I shot down all the asteroids in an asteroid storm and my combat rating became legenday. hmm

Icax. Seriously, Icax or Buccaneer before the Tachyonic Fighter comes along, or after if you want some fun.

Just leave it alone for a while. It'll resolve itself...in ages.

Those asteroids (counted as ships) have huge crews. Crew kills are what decides combat rating.

------------------
Word.

Were the asteroids intended to have huge crews. After all, they're just asteroids right?

I dont know but they have a shield of about 2. The Tachyonic fighter costs 2 million but he gives you one million to help you pay for it, you have to earn the rest.

I expect the asteroids were given the large crew complement precisely so that getting rid of them would boost one's combat rating and also make you popular with just about everybody. F.H. isn't big on having you kill human beings.

As for the choice of ships, I used a Wanderer until I got the T.F. It worked for me.

Well, more than that, probably, Freak, is that a large crew makes it pretty tough to capture one; I don't think DA wanted people to have asteriod escorts, as that just isn't realistic.

Could be. Of course, the fact that they don't have any armor makes it pretty hard to capture them, anyway.

Well, having asteroids that actually chase after you isn't that realistic anyway, 😃 However, I've found that capturing ion storms and vortexes are possible, and quite fun, 😃

The huge 'crews' are to increase the boost from shooting down the asteroid, and also to prevent you capturing one.

BTW, who is 'DA', and what has he got to do with Frozen Heart?

Regarding asteroids that 'chase' you, there are two explanations for this:

  1. your hyperatomic motors create a gravimetric disturbance as you hyper into a system. Other ships compensate for this, and planets are too big to be affected. Asteroids with a particular composition are hugely affected, other asteroids (non-metallic ones) are relatively unaffected.

  2. it's just a game -- not everything is possible in the EVO engine.

I'll leave you to decide which explanation you prefer.

It's rather simple, Martin. There are two people I know of on the boards who use their real name, and they have vaguely similar numbers of letters; Martin Turner, and David Arthur.

Both of you are really cool guys, so... It can get confusing for some people.

Word.

In Frozen Heart, the Tachyonic Fighter is ~the~ ship to use. I didn't even bother upgrading beyond the shuttle until the Fighter became available.

Also, given the confusion I see here, I should point out that I have/had nothing to do with the development of The Frozen Heart.

Yeah, after I posted that, I got a funny feeling. And I always have gotten DA and MT mildly confused. Sorry to the both of you. hangs head in shame

I played frozen heart with the "Wanderer" untill the TF became avalible in ages you just have to wait and wait and wait just keep doing otehr missions and amuse yourself untill whenever you get a mission from the chess guy saying "I did it I invented the tachyon drive" etc...

Wanderer is a good ship I like it its fun and holds quite a bit of cargo and doesnt have long jump times ... But it wioll be a challenge if you get in a fix with pirates but you can beart most of em...

Personally I like the Wanderer, which is what I chiefly used to test FH. Some people prefer the Rim Prospecter, which is also a good choice.

Some of the later missions can be done in a Buccanneer if you don't quite have the credits for the TF. At a particular moment, though, it's got to be the TF.

I liked my Wanderer a lot. I fitted it with a dust sprayer and whenever I ran into pirates I would just circle around in a cloud of dust until they ran out of missiles, and then go in and disable them and raid their ships. Metapiracy is a good source of secondary income.

I don't quite think I understand that. Rim Prospectors, to me, look absolutely pointless, and Wanderers don't seem very good either. I usually end up in an Icax - is that not a good choice, would you say?

------------------
Word.

Is there some sort of scoutship in FH? I don't remember, cuz I played it awhile ago. I seem to vaguely recall using something of that type before I bought the Tachyonic Fighter.

Wanderers and Rim Prospectors are good beacuse they have lots of fuel so you can do plenty of Jumps and not worry about refueling that much 🙂 also once you stick and afterburner no them you have plenty of fuel to use for it
