The Miranu Heavy Freighter can carry an astonishingly large cargo, but, though reasonably capable of defending itself, tends to require an escort in more dangerous regions because of its slow speed and lack of maneuverability.
Woohoo! Largest freighter in the game! If you are going to do single-system trading (trading between 2 planets in the same system) this is your best bet to use as an escort! If you are not doing single system trading, these things are very expensive, so make sure you have enough of a profit to sustain your fleet. Jumps out at 75% normal speed.

I don't think you can really classify the Arada as a freighter. Some people who wouldn't consider themselves as traders consider it to be the ultimate ship, and complete three central objectives in it. Great ship... but not a freighter. I have recently been embroiled in a disput with Shayborg about which is better, the Scoutship or the UE Transporter. He says it's the scoutship... now it's probably going to get rated as a better freighter as well. sigh
The Miranu (not heavy) freighter is a sweet ship, with a nice graphic. If I were still in the cargo-hauling business by the time I had 800,000cr, I'd go for one of those.

I don't think the arada belongs in the poll either, and how come you put 2 votes for the h freighter? My favorite is the scoutship. I don't usually buy freighters.

First of all, you guys are wrong about the Arada. While it is most often adapted for combat, it is totally possible to outfit it with several cargo pods, leave some space for a little weaponry, and have a SUPERB light freighter that has very good speed and capable defense. If you don't believe me, I'll post an ideal configuration and you can see for yourselves.
I actually have a running debate wth myself over which is better: a cargo-oriented arada as mentioned above or a Freight-Courier.
Speaking of which, my vote for this poll is for the Freight-Courier. Good initinal cargo space, good shielding, and a lot of weapon space. At the moment I think it is the most capable cargo ship out there in terms of defending itself in a sticky situation (with the Arada not far behind). Its also reasonably flexible. You can max out on the weapon space and have a moderate cargo ship that's great at combat, or you can forsake the hunter missiles, purchase cargo pods, and have a very survivable light freighter. Although both the Arada and the Freight-Courier can take care of themselves, my favorite is the Freight-Courier because it gives you more space to work with and costs no more than the Arada does.
The Miranu Freighters (both types) are great for hauling cargo, but I'd never fly one as a personal ship. Too slow to be survivable, in my opinion.

Which one is better depends on what you want to do. If you want the ability to go long ranges, the scoutship is obviously better. If you're more inclined to not travel far and trade within relatively short distances, you may as well go with the transporter because of the larger cargo bay.

This vessel, although the design has been common for generations, still tends to be viewed as a new-fangled contraption by many. The ultra-traditional Strand forces eschew it entirely, for example, making no use of it at all for military purposes. Even so, this flexible, mid-weight vessel, whose distinctive character betrays alien influences on its design, remains popular with traders on the up, and, of course, renegades.
This ship is very good in that it is the 2nd most powerful 1 day jump ship. It can be used with great success, but should not be used after you can buy the Crescent Warship, unless you are doing missions that require 1 day jump ships- and that is the only reason you really want this ship. It jumps out at 125% normal speed.

The Arada really should be taken off; it is so obviously superior to the others in so many ways that it makes the poll meaningless. Other than that, the Freight-Courier's got my vote.

My favorite freighter is the Miranu Courier. It is reasonably manueverable, has some armament, and has a gigantic feul tank.
