Nova. Oh, your choices? Okay...
Plugs -- EV Graphics -- EV Plot -- EVO Missions -- EV Special Upgrades -- EV Weapons -- EVO Races -- EVO
Wow, this one's kinda close. After carefully reviewing my choices (sure) I would definitely pick EV.

That's another vote for Escape Velocity. Speaking of which, has anyone updated the vote stats report lately?

Counting votes in this thread only, I have EV: 12 EVO: 11 One person, Oscar, is undecided.
Counting is difficult due to people posting multiple times to argue a point-- this count should be double checked. Totaling both threads together will be nearly impossible due to people (such as myself) voting in both places.

I vote Evo because I actually like some ships in the game that are a brighter color. And I like the plotlines, the goverments, the graphics, that diffrent size ships jump at diffrent speeds instead of at the same time, ships, colored, ships, and did I mention really cool ships?

I checked by writing down names as I went, to make sure there are no duplicates. I get: EVO: 12 (your EVO count was right, I included the one who posted after yours) EV: 10 Neutral: 1 Nova: 1 (Ralph, of EV or EVO ONLY, which do you like better?)
Pretty pathetic, EVO is only ahead by 2. And I don't think Everyone from the EV board has voted yet, So I posted a link here from that topic.

I will say EV. for me it's mostly nostalgic (sp?) value.... i got EV on the CD with the first issue of MacAddict, I have never gotten into a game as much as EV, it consumed my waking hours for many months. I can't really compair it to EVO as i have not really played EVO... i found it on another MacAddict (by luck) i started it up and flew around for a few hours... but it just didn't feel the same... i neve got into it, i spent too much time just figureing out where i was and how to get to where i wanted to be... The only problem i have with EV is the shortness of the mission strings... Missions are the heart of the game for me... I will probally be trying EVO again though, as i have just completed Pale for the first time(it's nice to finally have my Mac on the net)... and i am out of plugs that add missions....
Escape Velocity: Override: 12 votes Escape Velocity: 11 votes
(I have already voted - no change to the tally here)
A couple of things annoy me about EV... For example the 'readme' file with 1.0.5 which said "We consider Escape Velocity to be a 'done work'" ...there would be no further upgrades.
A month after I read this (the game had been included on the 'shareware' section of a MacFormat cover CD) EV:O appeared. There was a small discount for folks registering the newer game, who already had the original... but. Plus EV's registration used to be $10, and now it's listed as $20... I only ever registered EV:O, and I don't think that's unreasonable. EV plays like a prototype.

As the resident spellchecker I'd like to say that "nostalgic" was in fact correct. If only someone could check my grammar.

Since when was EV available for 10? And about it being done, Override was a new game, not an update. Also, I think it plays more like an original and best, rather than a prototype.

I've never heard fo EV ever costing $10 US except through occasional promotional offers, and I've been here since version 1.0.4. As Macavenger said, Override was an entirely new game, and Ambrosia still does consider the original Escape Velocity a "done" work, and has not been updated. I don't see anything prototype-like about the original, although I could understand somebody who had played Override first thinking of the features it added as "normal."

EVO by far gets my vote. EVO is much better at everything besides graphics. This simplistic two sided plot of EV was great, but simplistic. The complex relationships between all of the governments makes you move much more carefully in EVO and watch all your steps. The weapons do suck, what is with everything going in circles all the time???? None of the homing weapons work that well in EVO, I would kill for some torpedoes. EVO does have a lot more bugs in it too. Also, the plots in EVO are pretty short and the whole game is over pretty quick for such a big universe. So many useless planets. However despite all of this, EVO is a far superior game in my book.
Another thing that I would like to point out, is that plugin developers are thinking WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY too small. With the systems out these days, you could have universes, ships, and plot lines in the way off the charts catagories. I'd love to see fleet battles between ships with thirty times the size of the ship, and the fleet, with some giant universes out there. I am working on my programming skills so maybe I will do it. Till then, think outside the box people.

(Already voted, post one reason more why EVO is better) Have you seen that there is much, much more activity on the boards, posted plugs, and so on for EVO? Why, in your opinion?
------------------ M'enfin! Y'a personne qui parle français ici?
Because it's much more stuff to talk about in EVO. At the EV board, the topics are: What's better Torpedoes or Missiles? (And the same but Javelins and Heavy Rockets) Some guys asking questions about the Alien missions, and the ever-present bar where people are blasting each other to pieces. I think it's fun, but EVO is funnier. As I've alreday pointed out.
------------------ EV is the best game ever. But EVO is better.

Actually, though the Override forum has had much more traffic in recent months, the Escape Velocity forum has also been getting increasingly bigger (in posts and frequently-posting members).
