Good news everyone! Today, I have organized enough generous people to start making the World War Two plug-in for EVO! This does not mean that we have enough people though! We need someone who can organize all of the information that we have (graphics/texts) into a complete conversion plug-in. We also need people who can create images of the ships and the outfits, because that will be one of the most time-consuming parts of the plug-in. Any help will be highly appreciated and rewarded. I am looking forward to working on this plug with the good people who play EVO.
Esteb
P.S. I will not give away specifics about the plug-in unless you are willing to help with it! Sorry!

Speaking of WW2, I actually bothered to get everything expanded correctly for Overflow 1942! If anyone would like it, I could post it on the plug-ins page, or I could e-mail it to you directly, if you ask nicely! heheh
Could you put it on the plugins page? I would like to be able to play it, and my computer is in Cupertino getting fixed (needs a new logic board) at the moment so I can't check my e-mail. P.S. how did you manage to expand it?

I had to use res-edit and play around with the properties of the unexpanded files so that I could get some other crazy expanding program to decrypt it. It was a segmented file, so i had to get Compact Pro to decrypt it in segments. I then took all the files (which now work) and stuffed them into one file that I will upload onto the plug-ins page.
The Overflow page included instructions for unpacking the file, but it seemed an awful lot of bother. Rexbo, I'm very grateful to you for making Overflow available to those of us who can't (or can't be bothered to) mess around with Res Edit. Once I'm through with my current project, I'll be looking at the 1942 plug with interest.

Hey Rexbo, two more volunteers here.
Ultimate Rebel- Could you specify what you mean? Perhaps you are referring to editors, not plug-ins. Plug-ins are files that you actually create, editors, such as ResEdit, are what you use to make them. You can find tons of editors on the Add-ons page of the EVO site, make sure ResEdit is among those you download, and EV-Edit is not.
------------------ The last time I was on this board, the price of dumb questions was really high. Ask me what I'm doing.
Hey, I tried to upload the Overflow 1942 file which is about 2.6 megs. However, as soon as I had clicked "submit" the window popped up saying that the file had been uploaded. i know that it would have taken at least 15 minutes for it to upload (56k modem), but it seemed to upload immediately. I will repost it, because the file right now says it is only 8k. Should I just leave the window that says "file uploaded" open for about 20 minutes? o well, i'll try again.
Count me in. I know quite a bit about WW II. I can do most of the rsrc programming.
And anyways, it was originally my idea, so I think I should be a part of it.

Yah! Overflow!
Ford was looking for the beta version on his HD the other day, lost it a few crashes ago...unfortunately, that was the version that had all of Ford's work on the Russian mission string :

Hey, what program is used to make ships/outfit pictures for EVO? and if we wanted to use a jpeg image as an outfit image, would it accept it if it was converted into pict? And speaking of outfits, how can you make torpedos not hit planes, and the 16" guns from a cruiser not hit planes? just lookin for some cool stuff... Esteb

It shold accept it if it's converted properly. As for getting certain weapons to only hit certain vehicles, I'll have to think about that one.
about the weapons... I know that the guy who made Overflow made the torpedos not hit planes by setting the torpedos not be able to track targets with a turn rate that is too fast, or something like that. I bet we could do that with the 16" guns, by making them turrets that can't track fast enough targets (can that be done?) ok, just throwing out ideas.
If that Overflow guy did it, I assume it can be done somehow. You mean the turrets actually can't follow certain vehicles, or they just can't turn fast enough to keep up with them?
Also, I might be able to do something with jamming.
(This message has been edited by StarStrafer (edited 03-29-2001).)
The only was I can think of to make some ships' weapons ineffective against planes, and to make strafing have little effect on ships is...
Give all planes nothing but shields. Give all ships nothing but armour.
Make the majority of weapons affect only one of these.
Of course, you'll still get partial damage, but the weapons will be much less effective. It's a shame, though, because a bomber sould still 'stop' a torpedo, even if it wouldn't be completely destroyed by it.
I think the best way to go about this would be to use a different game engine... but maybe that's heresy. EV:O is a great game, but it doesn't really lend itself to sea combat simulation.
Just make it so that the planes all have an incredibly powerful jammer so that torpedoes can't hit it (it might work).
------------------ Diddly, "Well, we could grind our enemies into powder, but gosh, we did that yesterday."
Remember, torpidos for the most part only fired straight, unless they were kamakazi, so we need fore and aft firing......

That's easy. I coul do it right now if you want Rexbo. . .

Just copy the jpeg image and paste it in to the pict section of a plugin.
