Oh, and thanks for all your governments. They're really good.
PS: The Karians would have a truly terrible secondary weapon called the Gauntlet. It fires an infinite number of these little metal things that cause no damage. It's used as a sort of "formal challenge". They have enormous range and accuracy.

And I also officially hand the lead of this operation to Giule, who seems to know more about what he's doing than I do. So Giule, if you want, you can lead the building. If you don't want, then anybody else who knows what our genius here was on about can lead this operation.
Uh, thanks for the compliment, but I can't help you now. I'm spending almost all of my free time working on Galaxy's Edge, and I don't want to dilute my efforts. I'd be willing to help you out when it's done, but it might be a month or so.
Actually tho, that shouldn't be a problem. What I posted last time was basically a set of rules I came up with to make sure that all the ships and weapons are balanced. It should be just fine to do whatever you like now and we can apply the rules to balance everything later. (mainly we'd just need to change costs and tonnages for different ships and outfits)
Also, as a suggestion for keeping track of s˙sts: I think you should create a big map now, and populate the systems with planets and such later. You could assign different areas to different governments at will. If you have the marathon infinity map editor "Forge," that can also be a great help with the mapping.

I can't begin work for a while, though.
By the way, real or made up systems?
What editor is overall best?
How detailed (total systems, total ships etc.) ?

I see that a few ideas have already begun to take place, but I'll throw in another one.
How about a second threat to the UE? It could begin with the end of the Voinian War, perhaps a few missions dealing with them, and then a mission to inspect <insert system> because of an unknown vessel/entity. Threat could come from below/in the Proxima Nebulae. A message is then sent from Parliament, but is responded by a fleet of their ships coming after the player, the messenger. A new UE base is then set up in a nearby base (maybe in the Proxima) and a front is set up with the new threat.
Ships would be either completely organic and biological engineered, or, so hi-tech that the best human/miranu/strand engineers combined can not figure out how they work. Ideas would be similar to Voinians, but worse. They don't take slaves, they want to dominate the entire universe and "clean" it of all other races, leaving only them.
If playing with the Voinians instead of the UE, missions could start out with defendign a few Voinian bases from UE attacks (opposite of the UE missions), and then scouting out for possible new bases (one is destroyed in another battle that the player does not participate in) in the Proxima Nebula. The new guys are then found, and to the Voinians liking. A diplomat string is then activated, but it fails and the voinians get killed and so on and so forth.
If working with Renegades, perhaps the Captains of Freeport would be at the head of this. Perhaps it starts with the test of a prototype of a new ship, and the threat is discovered. the player would be an escort for the new ship, and is patrolling the Proxima with a duplicated NPD. Prototype ship is destroyed, and it goes on from there.
All three mission strings would end in success/strategies used by each faction. Voinian end would finish with a few bombed worlds, a very dangerous front, and very tense battles. UE ending would finish with a big front, a few offensives to push the front back, maybe even a UE base was lost (Gamma?), and perhaps some other things. Renegades would end with the loss of maybe 1 of 2 newly setup bases in the Proxima, perhaps a pact between human and alien Renegades to fight the threat, and work together. Threat usually wins battles against all Renegades.
Threat could be called.....uh....I dunno.
If ships are organic and biological engineered, shields would be very VERY low, but more armor than 4 Voinian Dreadnoughts combined, and regeneration of the armor would be VERY fast, it would be known to "eat" shots fired at it. Ships would be moderately fast. Ship classes could be Cruiser (like the UE destroyer), Carrier (Carrier, carries 3 fighters), Fighter, Freighter(s), and a special multi-purpose ship. This ship might be used as blockaders, support for fleets/carriers, or a heavy fighter.
If ships are very hi-tech, both armor and shielding would be extremely high. Regeneration rate would be moderately fast. Speed of the vessels would be moderate as well. Ship types could include a Carrier (slowest of the ships, but still faster than the CW, carries 4 fighters), Battleship (like the UE Destroyer, but stronger and a bit faster), Fighter (fast as an Azdara), assorted Freighters, and maybe others.
Wow, it seems like I have the whole thing planned out, I thought most of that as I typed it. I would make it, but I suck at graphics, mission making, plug-in making, and all the programming. I'm good at playing it though! This could be called something like "It came from the Proxima Nebula" or something. This would be really cool to see.

Neat idea, I'd make if not for lack of time (Dreden War is sucking up time), also for the bio ships, wouldn't they have names like worker, drone, queen, or something on those lines? Why would they have ship names if they were well, living?
Just my 2˘ (otherwise known as nitpicking, an unfortunate habit of mine), it's a really good idea though. Maybe you should plan it out a little more and have a topic asking for a developer to program/design?
Originally posted by Giule: **Actually, this was the idea behind the delta_v plugin, which looked awesome, but I haven't heard of it in years... **
The deltav plug in was one of a number started by groups, so far as I know none have been completed, at least by the groups that started them.
The deltav plug is still alive (barely) as is New Republic _ there's another old-timer for you. A more recent effort at group plug-making is Mille Terrae, which seems to be progressing failrly well with the usual problems of droupouts and nonperformance.
The group plugs do not have a good record, but maybe some of you can make this one work - there is always aneed for good plugs.

diddly - not bad. Perhaps I will plan it out a bit more.
Also, good idea about the bio ships.
Carrier: Brood-Keeper (hey it carries fighters)
Cruiser: Drone?
Fighter: Broodling (this name may give the idea that this ship should be weak. Don't think that. However in the missions, it could be made to have the Voinians/Renegades/Humans think they ARE weak. That would be a good surprise, and perhaps a turn of events.)
Freighter: Worker
Multi-Purpose: Spawner (This gives the impression that the vessel can "spawn" into different forms, depending on what is needed. Forms would be what I described earlier. Perhaps making different versions of this ship with different AI settings would make this work?)
Ships would be either completely organic and biological engineered.
They don't take slaves, they want to dominate the entire universe and "clean" it of all other races, leaving only them.
Hmm....That sounds very similar to the Zerg from Starcraft; totally organic, every aspect of them; don't take slaves, but instead look to absorb all life into their being to become 'perfect', and what would make it even more like the Zerg would be if they had a single intelligent entity leading the hordes of mindless organic soldiers. And then again, any 'new' threat to the UE in a plugin would be neat...like maybe....MARTIANS!!! That's right, Martians!!!!! Something like this: 'The usual patrol fleet had been going through Sol, when they were suddenly destroyed and we then lost all contact with the system!' That would make an interesting plug, don'tcha think?
------------------ ESPilot
HAH! The Zerg! I hadn't even thought of them while I was thinking of this plug! If the threat were to be zerg-like, I don't think Blizzard would be too happy about that. I also did not mean they assimilated races, like the zerg, I meant they WIPE THEM OUT. Also, your martian thing could be tied into mine. That would work if the ships were mega hi-tech though. Say a fleet was completely cloaked from all scanners and completely invisible to human eyes, and no one saw ANY of the activity on mars, because it was all cloaked, then one day, as you said, there was a patrol around Sol, and then BAM! No more patrol. However, this owuld work only for the UE, and Voinian workers and Renegade workers wouldn't be able to have the same fun.
BTW, I thought of another aspect of the Threat. This would work for the bio version only however. Because they came from the Proxima, and the Proxima does not have any F-25 planets in it, this race would be able to colonize the "Hostile Planets" and all the other barely habitable planets that are in the Proxima.
Heh. Reminds me somewhat of the aliens in Galaxy's Edge.
The aliens in GE are more along the line of pack hunters than insects tho.
I have made an outline which covers most everything needed to make this plug-in. It's a word document (Office 2001!!!). I'll send it to anyone who wants to make this plug. I'll help along the way, ofcourse.

I thought of some names for the Threat. Which one of these sounds the best?
AughRáuűght (pronounced awg-rawt)
Dhy'd-hifĺv (pronounced did-heefav)
GhirtSuhbh (pronounced girt-sub)
Caliűh (pronounced Caliooh)
Faugh-Ghűdiyf (pronounced Fawg-Goodif)
Hehe, they all sound funny. Which one should the Threat be called? Keep in mind this name is for a race that wants to exterminate the whole universe, leaving themselves as the only species living in it.

Well could you send it to me as light reading? In a few months I'd be willing to do it, and in between that time I could at least start (by say creating a plug that only has the new gov, and possibly a few ships/misns) on it and hand it off to you or who ever is going to be doing it.
My email is daveburgis@excite.com, and could you just paste the outline into the message? I don't actually have word installed on my machine.
Ok, it's sent diddly. It's a bit long, but it covers everything I've thought of.
