Well, obviously some people want polls because they keep starting and posting them. The rest arn't obliged to read them, it dosn't affect you unless you click on them and the topic title usually gives away the fact it's a poll so what is your problem? Just ignore them, don't read them if they annoy so much.

That still kinda leaves me hanging about flaming, though. All the polls, though they can be ignored, often end up with some extent of flaming, ranging from "oh no, another poll," to "Not again! Why on earth..." etc.

If somebody wants to set up a poll, perhaps they should use an EV:O eGroup (suppose we have to call them Yahoo Groups now). eGroups polls are quite good - lots of features such as emailing the results to the participants, making sure each member only votes once, alolowing some polls where you can 'tick all that apply' instead of just voting for one thing, etc...
Having set up an eGroups poll, it'd be simple to post a message here, with a UBB coded link inviting people to go and vote.

Though I am not here much, I do not find reason to ban something because you just don't like it. There are probably many like myself who think the same thing. Jude, excellent point and I am in total agreement with you. I think polls should stay

Are you gonna tell him that's a boy cow? Naw, he'll figure it out.
Yeah, but you have to admit that if there are like 10-20 polls, it does start to get the slightest bit annoying.

I can totally identify with all the members who don't like polls, I am a seasoned member at another huge web board, but here I appear to be a newbie, I guess you could call me "the knight in rags". On my other web board, there IS a place just for polls, but the expected problems occur all the time; polls where you don't know what game is supposed to be discussed, and similar problems. There is also a problem with people using the place for polls as just an "Idle chat" location. New topics sometimes don't even involve polls at all. And yes, it can be annoying to see the same poll over and over, it happens all the time at my other web board, but I've learned to deal with it. I hope that the only poll I started "Worst Ship and Weapon" was at least remotely original. Polls are good for newbies because they can express their opinion in an exceptable fashion. It is easier for a newbie to respond to a poll, and get used to the atmosphere of the forum, than to immediately jump into a heated discussion about the use of the Monty Python tactic in Escape Velocity and Escape Velocity Override, for example.

A place just for polls? That would be nice...And Desert Fox, I never said I actually hated polls and wanted to ban them, all I said was they get annoying when ther many of them at once.
