So far, there have been COUNTLESS misspellings of (fairly) simple EVO words. I understand that people who don't spell well or newbies may have trouble, but most of us who simply don't care have no excuses. Many overlook this, but I was one word from winning the district spelling bee a few years back, so I decided to make a list of commonly misspelled words: -Paaren, not Pareen or Parren -Voinian, not Vionan, Vionion, or Vainion -Igadzra, not Igdazra, Igzra, or Igzdra -Zidagar, not Zidgar, Ziddiger, or Zidgra -Azdgari, not Azdgri, Adzgari, or Agdzari So far, those are the grossest misspellings; feel free to add more to the list.

I'm not sure what these CRUSEIRS/CRUSIERS and FRAGHTORS/FRIEHTERS are either...and those are real words.
I'm right there with you on the spelling, though. I was junior high spelling winner, but it's only a two school contest. Yours is much more impressive.

It could help people to remember if they note that Igadzra, Zidagar, and Azdgari all use the same letters. Then you just have to work out the order. I wonder if there is more to the pattern.

My question is, why do you let it bother you? It's obvious with such unfamiliar names, that misspellings are going to occur. If you know what they mean, that they are talking about a ship rather than a race and the context is obvious, why let it get you annoyed?
Are we so petty that we're going to slam newbies for wrong spelling rather than welcome them into the (mostly) friendly community of the EVO board? Does it really matter in The Great Scheme of Things? How would a dyslexic person feel reading some of these postings? Would they ever dare post?
With world hunger, AIDS, third world poverty, Chernobyl having to be shut down again...and we are getting annoyed at people spelling some obscure words wrong related to a game that an infinitesimal proportion of people on the planet play. It seems out of whack to me. Let's save our anger for where it is deserved...racism, exploitation, child slavery...and so on.
A sense of proportion please people!
Thank you (climbing down from his soapbox, putting on his asbestos suit...waiting for the flames..unless the EVO webboard participants are more noble than he thought...hmmm)

Actually, back in the old days (and i'm talking OLD days) when I first started up my EVO site (the first one up, I might add, its still up just for all you skeptics ) I origionally spelt Override Overdrive (don't know what was up with me then).
I've also done a few times (back again in the old days) and seen many other people type Voinians as Vonians.
Heh, the rpg certainly straightened out all my mispellings.

The people that can read the mispelled messages in this thread have proven that they can understand the alternative spellings. They are either being picky or just plain lazy. The webboard guildelines http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/guidelines.html say, "don't post messages solely to point out other people's errors in typing or spelling." You have dedicated an entire topic to this. If you find someone has mispelled a word then just remember the guidlines that someone, maybe even you, wrote. Iron Fist said "Paaren, not Pareen or Parren". If you see somone say "Pareen" you still know that they are talking about Paaren. Grit your teeth and mentally transpose it. Writing is about communication. The spellings that we use today are only to communicate. As long as you get your message across you are doing just that.

lol. this topic does seem kind of pointless. pagangod, i think the pattern is taken further in 'Beyond the Crescent,' a good plug.
If I have offended anyone, my bad. I guess I am just picky. But think about the people who have trouble reading, they may not be able to associate spellings in the game with spellings in some of the posts. I won't get into capitalization and punctuation. Again, sorry for any trouble I may have caused.

That's all well and good, but you're taking what you're reading out of context. That generally means not to simply reply to a person to point out their spelling errors. This post is not doing that, rather stating that there HAVE been mispellings, this is what he's seen so far, and if anyone else has anything to contribute to do so. Perhaps he had an idea in mind to make a simple document for newbies to read in case they're confused.
This is not a post in anger or jest or anything else, just simple information and (gasp, dare I say) communication, and it's perfectly fine the way it is. As far as simply ignoring the way people spell, as of now, most people do so, but it is still annoying to find words horribly mangled by people, and this is one of the best posts I've seen that could help change that, without much patronizing (there is some by a few blockheads in here, but go figure )
So thats that, if you care to argue the point more, email me.

I didn't know other people used that term, too.
