The Light Behind the Shadow

A NEW EPIC ESCAPE VELOCITY ADVENTURE
BY THE DIVINE ROOSTER
MODERATED IN PART BY MIRANU

Rules:
You may control only your own character.
No total destruction.
Your posts may only account for one weeks time and one day's action.
No undefeatable protections.
Tech and Civil advances are made during the set timeframe.
Lifepads (small shield protection modules) may be used while aboard one's own or affiliated structure, and warsuits (suits with life support and shielding) may be used given time to put one on before going onto a hostile structure.
Thread Moderators (Rooster and Miranu) may revoke your posts at any time if they do not follow these rules.

Pax station was quiet, Rooster (with lifepad) stood alone on the observation deck staring down at the plasma in the stations power core. There were other ships in the distance, but all was quiet on the station. He was in deep thought upon what direction his life will go now, with the destruction of the Voinians and Zidagar, and weakening of the remaining Igadzra past the Great Revolution...

It is not fear that will destroy you, but the absence of it.

I have a couple questions about your rules.

1. Your posts may only account for one weeks time and one day's action: What does that mean? Are you saying that our posts can only last for a week and we can't post more than once a day? Or what?!

2. Tech and Civil advances are made during the set timeframe: What does that mean? Are you ganna say. Okay guys make technical advances starting... now! okay stop! ???

3. Lifepads (small shield protection modules) may be used while aboard one's own or affiliated structure, and warsuits (suits with life support and shielding) may be used given time to put one on before going onto a hostile structure: What does that mean? You can wear invici-clothing only when aboard you ship??! I don't get it.

------------------
"Stop ryhming, and I mean it!"
"Uh... Anybody want a peanut?"

1. One week's time in the story, not real time. And you can have that much story time pass, but only desribed action has to be in one story day.

2. Tech and Civil advances have to come slowly, and cannot advance more than one week per post.

3. You may wear shields aboard friendly ships and your own. If you are planning to leave for a hostile vessel and have time to put on a warsuit, you will have shielding there too, but remember, it's not indestructible.

It is not fear that will destroy you, but the absence of it.

I'll moderate. 😄

Great! So let's get started. Everybody does have to respect what other people do unless Miranu or I revoke it. Otherwise continue on, control only one character (themselves). And not a rule, but let's keep it to personal, not national. It's more fun that way.

Meanwhile, as Rooster contimplates his current situation, a renegade pilot known only as Bubaganoosh was relaxing on the beautiful planet of Ursa. He watched the cute litte Fuzzes tumble through the plains of the planet and decided what he should do next. He had recently retired as a Smuggler as the dangers increasingly grew as more and more bounties had been placed upon his head. He still was hated by many major Goverments in the EVO Galaxy and often had to flee for his life. Seeing a Zidara swoop down into Ursa's atmosphere he quickly reacted after remembering he had recently stolen precious metals from one of their worlds. Rushing to his ship Buba reached for his comm link to warn his crew of their immediate departure. Once again Buba would have to find another planet in which to relax and plan his next move.

the serenity on Pax was soon broken as the Bloated Penguin (crescent warship), the flagship of Oasa's fleet, hypered in and promptly opened fire on Pax's shield generators. Six warship escorts jumped in shortly afterwards, their turrets already trained on hapless Pax. The station shook violently under the force of 21 phase turrets pounding away on the station's heavily shielded hull.

Quick note: Oasu, you just made enemies with both the UE and Voinian empires and their task forces are probably on their way now.

Rooster is brought out of thought by the attack and runs for his ship. He flys blindly through the corridors, mindless of the large stations possible internal dangers. On nearing his dock port, he sees a cloaked (not with cloak, but wearing a physical fabric cloak) figure emerge from a room, and first suspects it to be an emalgha...

Meanwhile... Bubaganoosh, safely in his ship The Rebel , an outfited Crescent Warship, quickly jumped out of the Feviry System towards UE space. Buba had never seen much of the talked about UE and Voinian war and decided to head for the battle front to see if he could be of any assistance. He quickly set his coordinates for Dogover, a famous UE/Voinian landmark.

The figure emerges from the darkness and is indeed an emalgha. He begins to speak, and his yell grows immensely louder with every word. "The long night has past us, but it will follow with the darkness of a shadow, and destruction brighter than a thousand suns!!" He then begins to scream insanely and with a ripple of his skin, he explodes sending Rooster flying backwards down the corridor. He soon manages to crawl to his ship, but the damage to the station is too great. Breaches are imminent. As the Saratoga, a dark blue Igazra refit, leaves the station, escape pods shoot out from it...but are blown away with the first hull breach...

Umm, roostersw, have you noticed that you said in your first post on this topic:

You are contradicting your own statements.

And Samurai, you have just controlled Oasa. This is against the rules. You have also added a new ship, as well as a new kind of weapon. The Council only has standard Crescent ships, not this kind. I'm not sure, but that may be against the rules.

Anyway, I'll just continue the story...

Meanwhile, far away from all this Voinian/UE stuff, an Azdgari captain, known only by the name "Intimidator", is working on upgrading his Azdgari warship. Intimidator wasn't any ordinary Azdgari, he was 2/4 Azdgari also 1/4 Zidagar and another 1/4 Igadzra. He used to be just another strandless outcast, and during this time his mixed history was created, but then he helped save the Azdgari Vice Roy (president, and I did NOT get that from Star Wars). The Azdgari returned the favor by having him join their space navy.

The Intimidator was at that moment working on installing some new phase turrets on his ship. He was secretly planning on, after his warship the A.E.S.* Intimidator was finished be outfited, to go to the Pax system and pick up some special cargo. The cargo was three Voinian cruisers. A Voinian admiral was selling them to him from a secret location. Intimidator was to go to Pax, and await furthur instructions on exactly where to pick them up in Voinian space. Intimidator already had six frigates, and was planning on using these Voinian vessels to help strengthen the Azdgari.

Soon he was finished, and so hyperspaced out of Miranu space, past a few uninhabited systems, through the UE, and into Pax. As he entered Pax the Intimidator noticed....

Only I shall determine the motives of my character.... cough samurai... cough

--------
As the last terawatt of shielding on Pax is taken down by Oasa's fleet, a transmission comes through to the beleagured control centre of the station - "your misconceptions will be your undoing." With that, Oasamostexianu hyperspaces out, setting in a course for Earth.

42 seconds after the mysterious attack commences, Pax is destroyed in a brilliant white and green explosion, throwing space debris as far as Ylynn. There were but four survivors, their escape pods quickly picked up by the Intimidator.

------------------

Smooth move on the pod pickup Oasa...you're a born captian.

MODERATION: Samurai should have stopped control of Oasa right before he said Samurai could board his ship. I meant the Voinians were no longer a threat. Considering this Council ship does not exceed the capabilities of normal ships (i'm afraid these ion cannons are against thread rules), it may be in the story.

CONTINUATION: Rooster sees the Bloated Penguin enter hyperspace and yells for his con officer to lock signatures. The Saratoga then follows the Penguin on it's way to Earth, but gets some reading of activity on the way, so comes out of hyperspace. The tactical officer reports two masses behind the planet. The rim of the first ship begins to emerge...

Buba veered his ship away from the system's core, begining his final jump into Dogover. A crew member rushed to Buba as he stared out at the beautiful stars through the Warhip's small windows, "Sir, we have just received reports of the destruction of Pax Station in the Dogover system. Sir, it seems that the destroyers were none other than those of the Crescent, sir." Buba contimplated the situation, rubbing his chin and giving hums of thought. "It seems like our presence in that system would be useless. Change coordinates for Earth, maybe we can find out what happened and lend a hand. I will always remain loyal to United Earth and it's forces." The crew member walked off shouting orders to the other members aboard. As the ship began to calculate the vector-coordinates Buba wondered what force had bestoyed such an evil upon the great station of Pax.

The projections were found to be mere interference, so Rooster's ship continued on until the con officer reported another large warship in the jumpstream. Rooster took the hyperspace controls (as most know, a projection interface totally dependent on the navigator's hand movements as usual) And began to almost religiously sway his arms. When the ships matched points he pulled his left hand back and his right hand sharp right. The Saratoga suddenly pulled out of hyperspace and almost in a millisecond the computer on Buba's ship pulled out of hyperspace to avoid collision. Buba came within two feet away from the Saratoga's hull in a frantic effort to stop (this was the only way a council ship would have spoken with civilians). Rooster opened a comm channel and proposed a meeting to discuss the actual events aboard Pax. Buba opens his mouth to reply....

Captain DeBlazio, famed UE captain of the UE Cruiser Vindicater, sat in his command chair. Patrol duty was boring in the Valos system. "Sir, we are geting a cominication from Earth, we are to report to Luna and wait further instructions", a lt commander said from his seat. DeBlazio yawned. " Very well, helm, set course for Sol". "Aye sir, course plotted in", the helmsman said. "ENGAGE!"

After arriving in Sol, Oasa split apart his fleet: 3 warships were sent to the system rim, three protected the Bloated Penguin, and 21 Crescent Fighters were deployed as point guards.

Luna Control sent a Priority 1 hail to Oasa - "State your purpose now., or face destruction."

Calmly, Oasamostexianu replied, "I suppose I will choose the latter option." As he defied the entire UE government, Oasa's hand slid to a Big Red Button on his command chair. He pressed it.

21 fighters simultaneously entered Luna's gravitational well and dove at top speed for Starbase Alpha. At the same time, each warship strategically stationed at the system's jump points launched ten space mines. Each warship protecting the Penguin dropped mines in the airspace above Luna.

Twenty-one fighters crashed into Luna Control, rendering it a smoldering heap of metal. Thirty five destroyers, having just left the surface to destroy the rogue Oasa, brilliantly exploded as they crashed into the mines, unable to steer clear in time.

Oasa and his fleet quietly hypered out, their destination unknown by the UE.

On the bridge of the Penguin, Oasa wondered if 30 space mines left drifting at Sol's hyper-in point would be enough to destroy the fleet that would surely have followed him. Of course it will be, he mused.

incidentally, my character will now be doing top-secret-cool things for a while while you sort out the mess your fleet/goverment has become at my hands.Remember, you have no idea where I went or what my motives are.

------------------

Meanwhile, The Intimidator returned the people in the escape pods that he rescued back to Outpost Alpha and Ylynn Outpost. After that, The Intimidator stops at Ylynn Outpost and The Intimidator finds his contact, alive but with a broken arm. The contact tells him that the ships were commandeered by UE forces, and that they are at Earth right now. The Intimidator groans. He didn't want to involve him or the Azdgari Empire in any war with the UE, even though they would win (although The Intimidator really thought that they could beat the tar out of the UE, but he didn't want to insult any human). The Intimidator decides he must find someone who can help him get the Voinian cruisers out secretly. He scans the surrounding systems and discovers two ships in a nearby jumpstream, which he identifies as Roostersw and Bubaganoosh. He sets course for them, hoping they will help them. The Intimidator leaps out of hyperspace in his Azdgari warship, called the A.E.S. Intimidator, and hails Bubaganoosh and Roostersw...
