In my book, a "newbie" is someone who has been playing the EV/O for less then 6 months.
than there's a "board newbie" who has been on the board for less than 6 months, but has been playing EV/O for longer then 6 months
than there's spammers, witch, too often, people confuse for newbies (a spammer is someone who post meaningless drivel on the board)
than there's flamers, witch is some one who attacks every ones personal opinion (people also confuse flamers with newbies)

I've got one of his stories there...
But I think, Nathan, you should probably change it to the exact location of the stories page, which is:
rummages around
Erm...
rummages some more
Got it!

Whew. Thought I'd lost it there... oh well. And, if you want to keep it to grybs.com, I'm fine with that. No worries... hey?
Oh, and BTW, I'll have the next section of Galaxy's End up fairly soon. I was coding the Quenti ships etc. earlier, and doing some modelling for them, so I didn't get time. I'll start coding fairly soon...

And about the Newbie question...
I don't consider myself a Newbie, but I've only been at these boards for around a month now. I used to visit, but not post before, and before that (waaay back) I was a serious regular. But I took about 8 months break...
...so nobody recognises me. Shame really...
How about:
Newbie = someone who hasn't completed all 3 central objectives of the basic game yet, and/or feels the need to use cheat plugs.
------------------ "Hey look Gavin... All this typing, and I didn't need to swear once..."
I think the question was about being a BOARD newbie.
Everyone has their own opinion of what a newbie is. Though, the average consideration is as follows:
Newbie - Less than 3 months Regular - Less than 6 months "Member of the community" (They have been here a long time, but they aren't exactly an 'oldie' yet) - 6 and 9 months Oldie - 9 months or a year
Of course, posting once every month doesn't really make you an oldie as far as I see it.... you should be well known for a long time...

Umm.... which board did you visit? I've been visiting the EV.com site and boards for over a year now on a REGULAR basis... but I have visited and posted back when there was only an EV board at the old EV site. And I don't recall your username. I almost always recognize someone who visited often, I remember not only the names but the personalities..etc of the serious regulars back then....

Well, if we're going to start using pretentious titles to show pecking order, then perhaps they should actually be Clean..Pillar of Society to represent board seniority, and Harmless..Ultimate to represent how long they've been playing the game.
That way, we can call "real" newbies "clean and harmless", and semi-hermitic veterans "Ultimate Good Eggs", and highly social social cheatplug users "Mostly Harmless Pillars", and the heroic statesmen would be "Deadly Role Models", etc.

Don't forget Honered Leader as one of the game playing things. Yes, it realey exists. I have it in a couple systems. I had to blow up a couple hundred UE ships to get it, though.

Newbie? Bah! It doesn't matter how long you've been here! It matters what you've learned in that time!!!!
------------------ Very funny, now beam down my clothes. These ladies look rest-less..... uh-oh...
Alien's famous tongue... "Vionions?? Voinioniommoins?? Viks? Veggies? Vegetables? Oh wait, that's a hewman plant...

You are correct. But the longer you'v been here the more you can learn in the time.
Graduating from newbie status is not about how long you've been here, as Alien said, its what you've learned, but it also is dependant upon your maturity level, and the way you treat other people. And a newbie doesn't ask questions like this.

Hmmmm, i was here either dec 99 or jan 00 as Adzara, but i changed it to lothe lan a couple of months ago, then changed it to Azdara (note the spelling difference) so what does that make me?
But guys really, it dosent matter how long you have been here, but what does matter is what you post. Stop wondering if your a newbie, and just have fun, or as close to that as you can get without alcahol and winfields. Really, it's the respect you have that matters. In my eyes your all cool as long as you post good shĄt.
G'night.

well, how did that happen? you said "***" without getting star()ed out. Lucky
I think game newbie is like what our Voinian friend said.... those who haven't finished the central objectives.....
as for board newbie... does it matter? As long as one person on the board knows who you are and what your posting style is, you're not that much of a newbie anymore.
For example, most people know that I'm a jackass. So, lucky me, I'm no newbie

Originally posted by Oedipus: **hey, im known by pretty much everyone, so i guess im not a newbie huh? **
No, your just a well-known newbie
Heheh, i have special powers. I can say shĄt and not get starred out. ShĄt. But seriously I don't think you can say there is a set date on when newbieness ends. Really it's when people look at your post and they don't think "hey whos this dĄckhead, bet he's a newbie". It depends on who you are, some people like Adzy for example, are newbies for life. Others like say i dunno... other people come here and it's like "Hey he is cool" and they fit right in. This is why i dont really like the information being next to all your posts. It detracts from what you posting, people go "hey this is his 5th post, i won't take any notice"
I totally agree with Chamrin (who may or may not remember me from the old boards). Most of this newbie stuff is completely lame, and anyone who judges someone else's opinion for how long they've been around (or whatever) needs to get a life. I've been around for a while now, and although I don't post on these boards much (which will change), I still respect a newbie's opinion to an older guy's opinion.
