You know how the star background is a pict file well if you change that too an ocean background you've got ocean EVo well sort of you also have to change the ships and all but I have spent many long hours of insomnia on this subject and I think I might head a project for a plug-in that would do this...
P.S. I won't be on the boards for a while (9 days) Because I'm getting Road Runner so if anyone has any ideas or would like to help please post.

As far as I know, you aren't able to change that particular PICT to anything else - I think you get errors.

Not true. The stars have been sucessfully changed.
The problem lies in the fact that ou can only change the stars; you still have a black background.

LOL Deva Voi(sp?). Trust me you are NOT the first to try this idea. Save yourself the trouble it doesn't work. I think it was Aqua that tried this. Anyway he found out the you can't change the background only the width of the stars(or something like that). Move on nothing to see here.
Dragon
P.S. You could try to spam Matt into adding this feature to EV3

People have been talking about this since EV 1.0 and nobody has succeeded yet. There is no effective way to change the background; and even if you did the physics is all wrong for ships on water.
There has been one plug released that actually changed all the ships to WWII period surface ships (plus a few airplanes) and it worked rather well in most ways. So if you really want to try it, go ahead, but forget about making a water background.

Yep, something like a year ago, someone named Vincent posted a plugin called something something 1942. But it gets really weird watching ships hyper-jump from port to port!

well then I was thinking about the hyperspace problem and figured that that would not be good but what about changing the str# resource to say of traveling to next system instead off jumping.
what about H.E.C.T.O.R.s from avara... hehe
It's a pitty but i tried it and it's immposible.Make a petition to get htat feature in EV3.

Changing the system background color is not possible in either EV or EVO, but that may not necessarily be true for EV3. (cryptic grin)

No, I get it when I see his work... (cryptic grin)
Hey Antilles I love your sig.
You can absolutely change the back ground in EVO! Just checkout the Dark Realms screenshots. I believe the group of people who made Oreste were working on a sea-based EV plugin, where you 'flew' various battleships etc. from different governments. This plug is dead now...but a sea based plugin WOULD be possible. It would look alot more realistic too, I mean characters floating around does seem a little strange, but sea ships would look right at home in the EV engine (the physics would be a little wrong, but who cares).

Its Thrawn, not Thraw. And Explain, not Explane. Or is there some joke I am missing?

No, I believe he said that it was added in Photoshop or something. Such a change would require modifications at the engine level.

Hmm, I know this is an old topic, but I'd just like to clarify that the screen shot of Dark Realms on my site is in-game, running the EVO engine and unmodified by outside forces (including Photoshop). And no, I'm not going to tell you how I did it. You'll just have to wait and see when the plug (finally) comes out. -david-

Heh, it is completely possible to have a color for the background, the only problem is that it has horrendous (and I mean horrendous) refresh rate (or whatever that's called). One of the first ideas is, hey! why not have really big colored stars? But most people who've tried say that the stars won't go above a certain size. However, I found that there is a way to make them as big as you want, but the only problem is it slows everything waaaay down. I've got a picture of it, but crosswinds is having trouble so I guess I'll show it later...
Now I bet -david- found another way as a plug with the rate mine is at would totally suck.. speaking of which, I think I remember someone saying that a good h4x0r might be able to change it with something in the code through ResEdit.. hmm.. goes into ResEdit

yep, i've had this idea too, but i didnt think it would work.
it would be cool to have ships from 1700's and such. hehe.
btw, could there be a feature in ev3 for sideways firing cannons? not turrets or swivel cannons, but stuck cannons.
and a primary weapons switcher too.
