March 2003 progress report

Hi everybody. This section will be for monthly progress reports on how development is going on your Coldstone project. Note this is not the grip about coldstone bugs.

As for my rpg called Wanderers, I am still in the writing stage and am currently sitting at 82 single space pages of script. I have found an artist and she is going to do some character art for me. I'm plugging away at the script (and I should have more time now that I'm done my evening course) and hopefully will be able to finish it up soon and get it out to the people who agreed to read it.

Good idea, Pedrith! I've done my opening map and pretty much learned Coldstone setting up that first map and beginning the game. I've also made some global events that I'm pretty happy about.

I'm now creating "the world" which consists of several maps bounded together via boundaries in the locations. They're taking me a very long time to do this. I'm also plugging away at graphics, although I'm using a lot of the graphics that came with Coldstone for my first game. I'm sure that some people will call my game a POG clone (with distain), but I don't really mind if they do. While the look may be similar, the concept is different. I've also begun a manual for my game, for the Player. I find that it's good to keep up with it.

I'm on a 9 month contract every year, and once mid-May comes around I plan to work on my game from 8 to 5, just like a job. I have 4 beta testers ready to go, and will probably be ready to test by early or mid-summer.

Very good idea indeed:
My own DarkRising... some of you already know what it's about since I've already posted 2 very early beta till now :))
I use a worldmap just like in every FF on snes and about 1/4 of it is completed, which means the worldmap itself and the linked area (maps)... However I've got no quests or NPCs yet due to the lack of graphisms... I ve got a firend drawing for me but he's alone and he's got a lot to draw 🙂
The battle-engine which is a turn-based one based on Ellrx tutorial works perfectly... I've got no monsters yet for the same reason: I m missing the graphics so I test the battle engine with the spiders given by Coldstone... I've got about 5 or 6 working spells (<ith the graphics and sounds)... almost no items (same goes here, I need the graphics :)) )
the story is almost completed... what's missing in it is the dialogs and events... but I've got 2 friends working on it... and eventually, i ve got a friend taking care of the musics and soon, the sounds...
However, I can't tell when the game will be finished... there s still so much to do...
I hope I'll be able to finish it in less than a year...
to be continued :)))

cool ider.

uhmm, i finally made the 1st overhead soldier (featured in all my screenshots) i have like 25-30 more to go.
i just reworked the main helo in the game as it was the 1st graphic i made and needed to be higher quality.
im trying to work land mass tiles like dirt, grass etc into decent tiles so i can save lots of room instead of using giant jpegs for maps in game.

ill update this on the 1st of the month, once again good idea pedrith man. ill keep editing this message and erasing and adding new stuff in on the 1st of every month so this forum doesnt grow freakin huge..

I'm doing the art for our game, and it's probably, um, well, about, um, 45% or so done, or so.

let's see, well i have the little prologue to my game all done, I have a theme song (courtesy of GulJared) and I have the first few tasks, as well as several npcs and some enterable (is that a word?? o well) buildings. Right now my game is a pog clone but I am in the process of making item graphics, then I'll make tiles and characters.

Go for it everybody!! So what if it's a POG clone?? For many of us, this is our first attempt. Be proud of what you're attempting. Just don't get discouraged!

Pep talk #356. 😄

P.S. This is sincere. Really. Just keep truckin'.

Good stuff!
I thought I was the only one using pog graphics for my game, with some original art by noogy.

Whose cruel idea was it to put an 'S' in lisp?

We don't have a name yet, so we're referring to our game as "Arx".

Real work has started. We're using original graphics with a few mutated Coldstone tiles, but none of the characters. All the game mechanics are complete, and were implemented surprisingly cleanly. (I'm in charge of that part.)

We're in the middle of environment graphics right now, but are thinking about skipping ahead and doing a couple characters and cutscenes to have something to show off. Maps are being made with CGE graphics that we replace with ours as they are completed. Hopefully we will have a website up soon.

Looking forward to having a healthy influx of RPGs to play on my Mac.

"I'll give the fans just what they want, and nothing else at all."

Well, if plug-ins count...

The current version of The Mushroom Lady is where it's going to stay for quite a while.

However, I'm starting design work on an "extension" to it. When finished, it will be a replacement for The Mushroom Lady (it will have a different title). It may include some sort quest or two -- depending on how long it takes me to figure stuff out -- in addition to new items and some spells and recipes.

Yelled at the almost-dead monsters:
Hey! Come back here with my experience points!

Good idea! 🙂 My game is not yet named, but is about 1/3 done. I bet it in't very good compared to what you guys are building. Sorry, It's just another POG clone(Graficly speaking).
