Ok, it's my first working game (I have another one with much more graphics, but no levels and such) with coldstone - it was meant to be a gift for my little niece, but I figured I should give it out to anyone who knew a little kid that was just learning the alphabet and spelling! With that said you should know that it's meant for kids!

Heh, if only my little sister were abit younger. =D It is a very cute game, and I love the starting up screens. Unfortiently, I get an error and a quit sometime during or right after the loading of the actual game portion, after clicking new game. Guess I will have to wait till next beta!

Thanks for the compliments! I've uploaded another version with more memory alloted to it in hopes that this will fix the problem - I've recieved other complaints about the game crashing and I thought that maybe it didn't have sufficient memory...

Find those areas you missed the first time around. You'll want to explore those hidden areas now made accessible with Spells Expander.
It is really cute, but this problem keeps cropping up: occasionally, when I pick up a letter, it disappears, but nothing else happens. Later, I walk over the same spot, and the "I got a Q!" message triggers and the letter count is increased by 1. Is the "I got a Q!" triggered by an event tile, or by picking up the item? It appears that the former is the case, because of this problem. Another thing: if you are planning on distributing it to little kids, it should have instructions or the kids won't know what to do! I think that the game over all is great, and I can see little kids having a lot of fun with it.
EDIT: Forgot one tiny thing: On my computer (using OS X) the icon for the application itself was tiny. Heh, I had the same problem for a few minutes. After clicking on the icon that says "click here to enter" or some such, another window will open. This is where I was having problems, as I couldn't find links to the sections anywhere. Then I realized they were cleverly disguised as links at the top. One will say games, click on it. Its at the bottom. Or just use Klatu's link, heh.

Klatu, I like very much what you have done. If you are open to suggestions, I have a couple for you. When the cute little critter picks up a letter, the white letter that floats upward should be a LOT larger. Most kids have trouble with small print. Same with the "find the missing letter" puzzles - need to be done in larger and more contrasting print. The black here gets lost in the background.
You have some bridges with guards posted nearby. If you don't want the player to cross the bridge, why not place the guard right in the center of the bridge approach? He seems friendly enough, but he might say "It is not safe to cross this bridge" or something similar.
Keep it up, the kids will love it. ~RD

Still crashes. You crash if you move through a letter bubble while pressing X. Not every time but often enough that this might help you isolate the problem. Might be the order of the events.
I agree that the letters themselves need to be bigger.
It would be nice to be able to talk to the wisemen by pressing the X button.

As far as new features there might not be a whole lot as it was meant to be a simple game (made quickly - that's why the animation is not so detailed).
I probably will move the guards (don't know why I didn't do that in the beginning). The reason that the are blocking the bridge is that there will be only on level each time the world will open up more (ie a bridge will be crossable) making it bigger and the questions will become about spelling and such.
The letter that moves up was an interesting side effect, but might not be in the next release - though I could easily add an animation of it, which would be simple enough...
I'm going to work on the game right now and hopefully have a new version up by tonight...

I wrote something much longer and more detailed but, apparently i mistyped my password and lost it all...
the dialog bubbles, anything more than 96% brightness/value is regarded as pure white, and is knocked out without exception (png/pict).
the walk animation is choppy, i'm not suggesting making more unique frames just copying/doubling the existing ones, it will look smoother (right now, it appears that the engine and the character scroll/move at the same pace, which gives it that sluggish unresponsive look)
Anyhow i like the game, i'm updating my site tonight and i'm adding a review (i guess i'll be calling it beta3, objections,comments,contributions ?).
