I haven't shown him. I haven't seen him in a few weeks. I think I'm getting it for him, and if he likes it well then that's good and if not I'll take it and play with it. I am getting him other things as well. We've had all our Christmases together since he was 7. So we all do pretty good hauls. πŸ™‚

I think I am not doing the RealBasic thing as he did not indicate an interest.
As for ResEdit, I'm not sure if he really knows the potential (at least I hope not).
He did say he would like to make an RPG, then proceeded to explain it to me.
He was not entirely amazed that I knew what it was. But since I am not his
mother I have time for this sort of thing. πŸ™‚

He has mostly just changed the interface on his iMac. It looks like OSX though it is not. He has also added new splash screens and things like that.

I am 13 and certainly love Coldstone. I am almost done w/ my first small project, a fantasy/adventure game. The only problem a kid may have using Coldstone, if he is a bad artist like me, is, well, the art. Coldstone would be a great gift idea for a kid like your nephew. πŸ˜„

I forget who mentioned it, but there are 2 here admitting to be 12. One is me.

I enjoy using Coldstone, and gamemaking has always been really cool to me. The problem I've hit is actually one no one older than me can figure out. So, unless if it's a problem that a good number of people can't figure out, I don't think he'll have any problems.

Hey Mr. Somebody, no one did. I asked a question. Many actual kids responded saying they were using it and had no trouble figuring it out. I did give my nephew CS for xmas, but he has not figured it out yet-- though he did create a spider character.
(I expect his first game might involve spiders.) He may be a bit more disadvantaged as he is dyslexic, but I have found if he is sufficiently motivated he will get himself to read things.

He is having some stability problems-- but then I think he has gotten his machine quite unstable anyway.

The best way to get started with CS is to download the demo and make a plugin for Pillars of Garendall. Stark has posted this officially on the PoG board, so I hope he doesn't mind: You can use Stark's tutorial (found (url="http://"http://stark.evula.net/plugin_faq.htm")here(/url)) to get you started. It is 10 times as helpful as the tutorial that comes with CS (in my opinion) and has the answers to many problems. The most common response I get from Stark when I have a question is: "Check the plugin guide." Since plugins and games are very similar, the guide only skips a few things, like an opening screen for the game, which you can learn from the CS tutorial, manual, or from others on the boards. Also, another good place for help is Ambrosia's IRC server. Just get an IRC client (plenty of them out there, just check (url="http://"http://www.irc.net")www.irc.net(/url) or do a google search for "IRC client") and log to Ambrosia's server: "irc.ambrosia.net". There is a whole channel devoted to Coldstone (#coldstone) and there are people there round the clock, willing to help. The best way to learn CS is to use it. Don't start with making maps or you will go mad (Am I right in saying that most of us thing that, aside from the bugs, map-making is the worst thing about CS?). Anyway, good luck with it.
