Are there other trackers people are connecting to? Every time I connect there is a relative paucity of players/games. Pop-Pop is such a cool game I can't imagine that that is all the players out there.

What time(s) are you signing on at? During the day, some of us have jobs to do and can't spend that time playing pop-pop (but we can, apparently, spend that time posting to the boards...).

The only other "tracker" where you might find games not listed on the official tracker would be in Game Ranger.

...and there are exactly zero games on GR...so where has everybody run to? it's 11 PM EDT, and there's ONE game on the tracker. 2 weeks ago there would have been 15 or so! has the game really gone that far downhill in the couple weeks that i was out of town?

I just signed on at 10:45 PM eastern. Two other people there, no games being played and no one joined the game I hosted (well, admittedly I only waited a minute or two....)
looking right now, 17 people, 6 games all full. Not bad for 9:30 at night for me.

Why just wait a minute or two - host a game and put it in the background.
Well, there is a small window between 4 and 9 PM, when most people have free time in the afternoon. Look then, its full of people and games.

When I read, 'tracker unavailable,' is the problem on my end, at Ambrosia or somewhere in between? Just curious, and wondering if everyone else is popping away happily while I can't get on!

Generally it means the tracker is down. It can also indicate some problem on the net between you and Ambrosia, but in every instance I've seen that message, the tracker was, indeed, down.
It is usually back up within 30 minutes though. I think that's how far away moki is from the office. He walks in, kicks the server, and walks out.
This could be in part down to a handful of Ice Wells spamming the hell out of newbies - possibly an attempt by some sad embittered life less creatures to sabotage Ambrosias efforts at online gaming, or just because it gives them some sense of power in their otherwise meaningless lives.
Also somebody(ies) have been using the tracker to try and push other products, unfortunately I didnÂ’t get a screen shot or the IP of whoever tried it with me. For the latter thereÂ’s not much you can do other than cut them off, as for the former play the computer and come back a week later to thrash the pants off them.
