The United Earth Federation Vs. The Voinian Empire

In an effort to bring some energy to this board, let me revive the class ic UE vs. Voiniasn debate.

Yes, (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/Forum8/HTML/002232.html")I know(/url), (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/Forum8/HTML/002575.html")I know,(/url) (url="http://"http://www.AmbrosiaSW.com/webboard/Forum8/HTML/004023.html")I know,(/url) but still...

Which side do you prefer, and why?

Insanity has its advantages

While certain events in the game (the independence of Huron, for example) leave me worried about the amount of political power the UE military seems to have, the Voinians are presented in such two-dimensional villain terms that they are not real competition in terms of moral high ground.

Well definitely from the way it comes across in the scenario, the UE are easier to like. I mean they are greatly interested in dealing with other races peacefully - Miranu, Emalgha, and likely the whole Crescent if they (the UE) ever got it together enough to actually get exploring it.

I mean over the time that we play the game, it doesn't appear that the Voinian conflict is taxing the UE so much that they can't expand in other areas, i.e. north, east, southeast of UE space. Rather, it seems to me that they're gettng used to their power, kind of like the Confeds of EV - in this case, the Independents of Huron and co., while lacking influence, are reacting just like the Rebels of EV - they just don't have anywhere near enough systems under their control to seriously take on the UE, and they would probably rather just have nothing to do with them.

In reality, the UE should be far more thankful to the Independent systems for keeping the Renegades, for the most part, away from core UE space, regardless of how poor the human renegade ships are.

Funnily enough, while the Voinians come across as the evil sweeping the galaxy (or at least trying to), at least they have their minds on expanding their own Empire, while the UE really only care about pushing the Voinians back - the UE at least have unoccupied space to expand into easily.

It makes me really wonder what would have happened if the UE hadn't won the Battle of Sol - the Voinians would likely have control of all UE space by now, and then if they still wanted to expand more, they would have no problem at all in the Crescent!

But then they could have ended up with no one left to fight, and that just wouldn't do.... So yes, on the evidence we have, it would be rather hard to prefer the Voinians, but that could be quite different if the history had been.. I guess we'll never know :).

From anything that could render my decision about how I feel about the two governements, it depends on the information the game itself displays, and I think that it might slightly be vague, but searching deep in the game play, there could be some clues as to determine the characterisitics of both sides. But maybe this is so because it was meant to be open ended for plug-in developers.

While I am writing FOTVE (Expansion for UE), I am considering trying to add some conspiracies if I can. Which would make it more or less kind of realisitic.

UE and Voinians?
I prefer UE. If I remember correctly, the Voinians were the ones who invaded UE territory.

I also like UE ships much better than the gray, bland Voinian ones.

I'm tempted to change my previous opinion (see last link in the opening topic) and suggest that the UE might possibly not be in the right at all. A lot depends on your perspective - taking things like how the independence of Huron was handled, and the description of Earth, you might come to the conclusion that the UE is a military dictatorship whose crimes are almost as significant as that of the Voinians.

I'm actually beginning to rather like the renegades of Freeport. If you consider the UE to be rather on the bad side themselves, and twist your perception a little, the renegades, particularly those based at Freeport, could be seen to be not too bad.

Am I posting in Just Chat or B&B;? If so, I'm probably joking.

Im sorry for going off-topic, UE Patriot. But you haven't posted here in two months, and I want to reply where ever you post. Your last post was October 19. Remember when you said Reign of the UE 1.3 was "pretty well done" and you "could release it soon"? It's December 20 now, and it's still not made. And yes, i'm repeating myself, but i'm burning to get a update that lessens the the boredom with blow-stuffup after you change, and be able to buy UE Destroyers for my UE Destroyer bay. As for the topic, I couldn't do deep philosophy like MartiNZ, only the game descriptions and intro text.

Edit- Hope that is fixed? And probably I should have E-Mailed?
Edit- Yeehaw! 300 posts! I'm truly a regular now! 🆒

Ah, y'know, I think UE Patriot really needs to make his email address accessable. This isn't the first this has happened, is it?

Yes... but I din't know that you couldn't send him a E-Mail. I wanted him to answer himself here, because with E-Mail you can't be sure that you get an answer.

What makes you think I haven't already done it...? 😄

It's been written for a while. Sitting around, collecting dust mostly. I'd need a bunch of new graphics to ever release it, though.

Yeh.... the Voinians in the story of EVO kind of have a one-sided character and are seen as totally evil. I'd like the Voinians if their race and government(and storylines, everything) were rewritten so they were not so seemingly negative, xenophobic, and evil.

------------------

😄

The Voinians are evil. They took the Hinwar as slaves and destroyed their whole planet by dropping gas bombs. They also tried to attack the Sol system (Earth) which was totally insane. The humans fended off their borders and eventually took over a few of their outposts. I have no idea why someone would classify the Voinians as good guys. They also attacked the Emalgha for no reason what so ever who have the worst ships in the whole galaxy. The treaty at Pax station was a complete failure and nothing was done. This was probably because the Vonians were so evil and couldn't even stop there reckless endangerment to all life forms.
Still, the Voinian ships have more armor and have more powerful ships but they don't have any intelligence what so ever. They think that they can just storm into UE space and destroy everything in there path. The UE defended the attacts with great success.

My vote: UE!

They are not completely evil, there was a defector you rescued during the game. In other words, they aren't just a collective of evil enslaving beings, they have their human characteristics too.

Of course, there's hardly enough information about the defector to determine whether or not he's not actually a Voinian agent...

You are compleatly correct, I neglected to mention the deflector. Perhaps almost the only one who did indeed deflect. Almost all of them are evil, but there is a few odd ones out.

Because they're unwilling to risk being killed by their own government in order to defect to an alien race which is at war with their people (and most of whose members don't exactly have a high opinion of Voinians as a race and are likely to believe they're spies or criminals), they're therefore evil? I'm not sure I follow the logic.
