I am new to this message board stuff so take it easy on me.
I have played through PoG and not had enough time to make it through all of the great plugins like WoC, DiD, Sapphire or Trinity. Work gets in the way of fun. However, this has not stopped me from brainstorming for a new PoG story.
This is a story of conspiracy against the Queen by Vortek (or if he cannot be edited or changed due to being an original part of PoG, some other close, p*ssed off relative of the Queen's can be created). I'll use Vortek for now. He's tired of doing the Fantrima thing and wants peace, quiet, distance from the Queen's rule and a lot of cash. He takes what he's got and hires a band of corsair (not quite as heinous as pirates) to overtake and rob one of the Queen's vessels. The plan goes wrong when the ship is so heavily guarded that the corsair group ends up stealing everything, killing everyone, and sinking the ship thus becoming "pirates". Not part of the plan.
More importantly, the ship is guarded for a reason. The queen was protecting an ancient artifact of great power and moving it to a safe place. Thus all of the security. Poor Vortek is now in over his head. But he still wants his money. Unfortunately for him, this artifact has begun to affect the corsair crew for the worse. They've forgotten all about him and the captain takes everything for himself and goes to his island in wait for world domination...Thus begins the ensuing adventure, Corsair, where you must, again, save Garendall and the world.
The plugin would need a number of new areas, NPC's and items (as is typical for a plugin). I have no Coldstone experience so this will be slow in developement. For now it is all on paper. Sound interesting?

Hi harpnbass. Welcome to the boards. Your story does sound interesting. There are a few hurdles you will have to clear. The first (and biggest) is one you seem to realize already. Coldstone will not allow us in a plugin to alter or expand an existing character other than the hero. You can build a story about Vortek, but when the player meets him in Fantrima he will only say what was in the original PoG. You can make a lookalike Vortek who you meet somewhere else but when you get back to town, he's still his nasty old self (who knows nothing of what he said out of town.)
All of the existing plugins introduce new characters who tell their own story. Since Queen Ariana does not appear in the game, she is easier to deal with and may not even appear in the plugin, though she does make an appearance in her courtyard in the Damsels in Distress final scene. You would have the most sucess by giving the hero - read "player" - new quests which take him into new or existing areas to take the story in any direction you wish. Bearing in mind that the game ends when the player finally defeats the Guardian and awakens the Pillars of Garendall.
I hope this helps. Get some time to play the quest-oriented plugins (Sapphire, SE, WoC, and DiD) to see some of the things that can be done. Then send us scurrying to complete a new adventure. We will be anxiously awaiting the results. ~RD

RD, I'm pretty sure that Vortek's filename is Evilbrother.ncp, or Vortek.ncp. It's not too hard to guess, and I have several clues
